View Full Version : Question about going from stick to auto

As u know the camaro is dead... im cotemplating putting the motor into the ta if it does not sell.
The ta has a CPT built trans and I feel for now that may make it more "raceable."
Now... my tuning is on point for the motor ... and Im guessing Ill be able to use the TAs harness for the swap and just plug my camaros obd1 converted computer into my obd1 ta.
Now... here is the thing. The camaro was a 6spd so Im assuming there is no map to run the 4l60e.
Sooooo can I just send the computer out for a map for the automatic, or will I need to have the computer from the ta flashed with the camaros engine tune?

basically ill rip tune off trans am computer, unplug, install camaro computer, rip tune off that. copy all motor tables from camaro tune to trans am tune, finesse shift points, flash, done. there may be a little playing around with shift points depending on preference. but its not that big of a deal
the tune thats in your impala is mostly osies heads/cam tune since it matched that cam etc. just copied it over. its not hard to do in cats tuner

Ok... still a long ways off though.
Trans is already good the way it shifts and runs... so idk that it needs any changes done to it. Just figured while I wait I could send the camaro computer out to someone who bench tunes like Moe and he could just add an automatic map right to it. And chamge the vin and call it a day. Then it would just wait till the day I swap.

You still may need some on the fly tuning to match up all the A4 stuff to your motor once you're driving and potentially racing it.

youre gonna need a 3200 billet faced converter atleast too, and obviously a flexplate

Yes,all that has to be done is have a automatic program installed then copy over all of the tables, in some areas there is a difference between the M6 & A4 such as the running airflow so the idle might be affected, also the tune,(not necessarily needed) may need a slight tweaking mainly at the bottom end.

Good thing its not u...lol... cause ive spent enough money and time getting that tune right. The motor is the same motor... like Moe was saying.. maybe some changes down low...

sorry, just throwing insight there, your motor will push right thru the converter thats in the trans am now.

Yeah... it was definitely alot harder on me than I thought it would be... I was just chatting with Cam and telling him... I got to the point a few times today I was gonna just list everything for sale.
If it hadnt been for all the new parts I ordered for the Impala... i just might have... including the camaros drive train.

I know how you feel Po, I built my motor 6 years ago and still only have about 10 miles on it, and half that quarter mile passes, one thing after another, broken drive shaft, burnt clutch, broke tranny ect, then I sent the car to have some custom headers made so I could have access to the plugs from the top, 6 months later and was impossible to get to the #7 plug, then took it back to the shop and he finally built a good set, but Man, at times I just want to say F it and sell everything, My car has never looked this bad, once a competitive and fun street and strip car, now covered in dust both inside and out, Just so frustrated
