Fuel pump went out. going to drop the rear and build it up. I have a few questions?

So I'm going to drop the rear (because fuel pump went out and I don't want to do any cutting) and build the 10 bolt slightly. I have a new t/a rear cover to put on. But my question is.... I want to weld my axle tubes. What's the best way to do this. Drain the fluids, grind the metal to get a clean weld, then weld? Can I do it this way? Or could the rear end get to hot welding then I would have to replace seals of some sort? I'm not sure. Kind of new to this. Any advice would be great.

Any time you start welding, the heat starts to weaken the metal around the weld. That's not to say you shouldn't weld, the steel tube would hold up but the cast case probably won't in the long run. I think with the mods you've done so far, you should be fine with the factory 7.5 rear end. I understand your concern with the very weak 7.5, but I wouldn't start welding on the tubes or housing. When you really start to progress in power, you'll start looking beyond the factory rear end out of necessity. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you now. I'm just going to put the cover on. That alone adds I believe half a quart of oil. Thanks for your opinion as well
