So I may be changing jobs and if so i need another box. Ive got a 2 bay Matco but hate to move it out of my shop. Anyone have one of these US generals? Looked at them the other night and they seem pretty rigid(not neaw what a Matco or snap on is) and pretty lagre for 800 bones.

Great entry level toolbox. Seen many guys use them on a budget too. I was thinking about buying the cart myself for my scanner and other diagnostic tools.

Screw entry level or not. The HF tool boxes are an OUTSTANDING VALUE. Sure they don't say "Snap On, MAC, Matco, Cornwell, etc" on them, but they do the job same as the others. They hide your tools and let you lock the door. Spending thousands on a dang metal box is just insane.
That said, I'm pining for the 72" box myself and want to sell my craftsman BB griplatch 40" combo setup. I want the workspace on top.

Not bad for a "cheap" line. I use one of the carts at work. The drawer slides and latches are the main shortcomings IMO

Well when you use one every day and pack it full of heavy tools and the bottom spot welds break you would know what I meant by entry level. Im not trying to say dont buy it. My matco box has had its fair share of problems too. No hate at all on the Harbor Freight stuff.

I agree. Hard to beat a good box. My matco I can climb up the drawers to get something on top of the office. Id also say the top drawer has 150 lbs of sockets and pry bars and holds up good. And mine is the cheaper 4 series. No doubt it is built better than the harbor freight. But for they money I like the HF. Plus if a towmotor dents my 4k matco box id be pissed. If it dents up a 800 HF box Ill still be pissed but would get over it quicker.

I haven't been able to find a better deal than this.
The construction on it is good, comes with the liners and the bearings feel solid. The only real negative I've heard is that the drawers are 15 3/4 deep while some others are deeper.

I'm going with this one and getting rid of my two smaller Craftsman one's. Like Fastbird I want the work space on top. I was looking at the HF one's but then I found this one as an online only. It's deeper and a little bit wider than what I was considering from HF. I've heard lots of good things about the HF boxes though.

I have no idea why the site kept changing my link to an eBay auction but the one I posted was only 498 for a 41" box.

Ive been looking around and Im gonna go with this Harbor freight box(If I get this job) Foudn a coupon online for 100 off, Makes it 699 and just a damn good deal.
Ive bought some stuff from HB over the years but Ive noticed you have to be careful nowadays. Some of their stuff is way overpriced compared to other brands that are no doubt better.

I have a couple different boxes and the US general pro stuff is pretty good, but I'd get some of the higher end in store craftsman boxes. The drawer weight ratings are higher and they open smoother not to mention the grip latch is a nice touch. The 52" top and bottom combo can be had for around $800 if you time it right and has a lifetime warranty iirc.

Just need a bottom box. Didnt know you could get a craftsman for that kind of money. Ill look into them before I buy one. Keep looking on Craigslist for a deal. I always see them till I actually need one now

Craftsman boxes do NOT carry a lifetime warranty. I have a Craftsman ball bearing griplatch 40" bottom and top box, and would trade those in a heartbeat for one of the HF boxes. Having played with both I can honestly say the HF box is far ahead in build quality. Granted my Craftsman combo is.......about 11 years old now or so.......can't compare to the newest offerings though they look the same to me.

Did you get the 52 or 41?

I've handle both of their most recent offerings and the craftsman is better built IMO. They do have a lifetime warranty. This is the bottom half of the combo.

I paid $999 for the combo on black Friday a few years ago. The price fluctuates year round and was actually $799 a few weeks ago. The drawer weight ratings are higher than the US general pro. The problem with the craftsman boxes like many manufacturers is that they are made by a 3rd party and quality will differ between models and years.

Craftsman added the warranty to the higher models a few years ago, I was told this when I bought mine since the older models were still there and didn't carry the same warranty.

Lowe's, Home Depot and NAPA tool boxes are made by Homak. They do have a regular and pro series. Just an FYI. Personally I have a Homak brand from NAPA. No complaints here. [emoji1303]

Homak is a very good brand too, it's what we have at my job. Northern tool sells them and they always have coupons .

The in store ones are only a fraction of what Home Depot can get. All the ones near me only had the the 18" deep models in store and I wanted deeper drawers. They have a 22" online and various drawer configurations, just FYI.

I went last night and bough the Harbor Freight 56" roll around. $799 and I found a $100 off coupon. Got it in the shop today and loaded it up. I really like it. It has latching drawers and some kind of poly urethane casters. I'm pretty happy with it. The drawer lines are kinda cheap and not as heavy built as my Matco but for 700 bones it is a good deal. I think it will work well

I went and looked at the ones Home Depot has on display and they are not built anything like the Homak I got at NAPA. Must be the cheaper version they have on display. At least what I looked at. Was disappointed, was looking to buy one to put in the car trailer. Guess I'll keep looking.
