I have a tube and fin style cooler, just wondering if i can mount it vertically with the inlet and outlet both facing down,(i'm bypassing the radiator cooler btw), only asking because of space constraints and routing configurations, thx guys. Cahall

Yes, but you shouldn't bypass the trans cooler in the rad, Trans will run hotter, and you should mount it horizontal with the inlet at bottom and outlet at top to prevent foaming. Also, tube and fin coolers are not as efficient as stacked plate coolers as the tube bends actually add friction and don't allow for as much thermal efficiency.

In closing, don't bypass rad cooler, run it in series.

Thx for the response, I did read the sticky that states as you did and it know my setup isn't optimal, this is temporary for tuning n shakedown runs, just didn't wanna cook the Trans, thx again

There is always more than one way to run things. And one sticky does not make the only way to do.

Don't do back to back runs or you may, the fluid takes a while to cool off as a stand alone. I had mine like that for a bit of time, Trans temp would go to 200 and just sit there. When I hooked it back up in series it went down to 165 all the time

Perma-Cool fan assisted fin and tube (I know, no one here likes them). No cooler in the radiator (a Griffin, originally built for a manual trans setup). As recommended by the guy that built the TH400.

Just an idea......

I run a stacked plate cooler with no radiator heating.

I have mine mounted in front of the radiator temp never goes above engine temp.

i have mine goin to the stock cooler in the rad then to a plate cooler mounted in front of the rad. and have a 160 thermostat. my trans temps never go over 180 on a hot day hot lapping the car. I.E. the shootout the last few years in true street

With a fan things are different. I had good luck "dope mounting" it like Injuneer shows above, used a cbr900rr radiator fan lol
