you think you would have issues down the road with the external reluctor getting dirty and not giving a good signal?

Probably not, gm and ford have been doing it on production cars for years.

I'm not bashing the kit but gm did it and is a common problem. If it were to fail It is an easy fix and is much more reliable than an opti.
I want to see those coil brackets mounted. They look nice.
I personally hate the pcm side of the kit but it looks pretty sweet otherwise.

hmm, im curious to see if that ever becomes a problem. yes it would be an easy replacement, especially easier than an opti, but still. it just seems like it would be the weak link in this kit, compared to per say an efi connection kit. but for 1500 buck you get everything you need, literally, except a tune. thats a pretty good deal no doubt.

Mine is a track only car...so I do not expect any issues from the exposed reluctor

Honestly, I was a GM service tech for 5 years and have spent half of my life wrenching on cars. I work in a shop everyday still. It's not that common of a failure. I've even seen these things oil soaked and still not fail. Not to argue but it wouldn't be high on my list of concerns.

Looks to be a top notch kit. This kit, is going to be my wedding present to myself :)
It looks to be a somewhat simple kit, far as installation. I can't wait!

installation will only be slightly more involved than installing an opti

well that would be swell if it was not prone to frequent failure, every 30k miles or so of street driving before having to replace it would be ok with me.
how to your like the included coil brackets? i read on their site that that only utilize two valve cover bolts. do they feel nice and tight?

Reluctor is riveted on?

Reluctor is riveted on?
And that it the problem GM had, the rivets give out over time and the reluctor wheel gets loose causing a bunch of problems. In 30 years as an auto tech, I cant count how many bad dampers and sensors I have replaced.

I imagine some button head machine screws with loctite could be used in place. This is just a prototype so maybe the production part will be different. Solid rivets bucked on would hold just fine too.

It's not the rivets but the magnet that can fall out or fail. It's really not that big of an issue IMO. Most of my cars equipped with that went 80-100k, they didn't spin 7k tho.
Imo this thread isn't about pro con of the kit, its about chopsticks install review ect.
Are the coil brackets aluminum?

guys also need to realize these are beta test units...the intent is to find weak points and address as needed
yes the brackets are aluminium

Is the pcm re-soldered? To the correct firing order for injector and coils? Or does it need that change made in the tune?

You can't change the firing order in the LS pcm, you can only change the pinout. I'm guessing the connectors are just resoldered for the LT1 harness plugs and the added coil harness.

I've seen the magnets fall out of the cam sensors, but have seen many balancers with loose reluctor wheels. not trying to derail the thread but I have personally dealt with this problem!

You can change injector bank assignments and the "firing order" for misfire.under diagnostics.
I get brain farty.

Talked with the manufacturer a bit over your concerns...the Hub has been tested to 10k rpm

I contacted Paul about options for 1992/93 Vette/Fbody applications. He responded very quickly:
This is a very popular question. There are a lot of 92/93 PCM LT1 owners out there who, like you, would like a solution.
I have committed to seeing what I can do to accommodate. Not quite sure what it might look like yet, or how easy the “plug and play” will be in comparison to the 94-97 PCM generation.
I plan to start looking at this in the next couple months. Hopefully have an answer and perhaps solution one way or another this summer. Currently all my focus is on launching the product and at the moment gearing towards the 94-97 PCM’s.
Regardless of niche or limited market for the 92/93, I will try to make it happen. Reason being, I will try and come up with solution that is simple for me to support from an inventory/monetary standpoint. I like to design and come up with solutions, it is fun and I do not really factor it in to the whole financial payback side of things.
If you have any more questions, send them my way.
If not already done so, please like the Torqhead FB page. It’s the best way to see what’s coming and keep up with latest news.
Regards, Paul

I offered him my spare ECM, Prom, and Engine harness as well as a OEM GM Manual (Bible). I told him i would guinea pig a system on my car as it is not going anywhere soon

Yes when you change to 24x you have to change injector banks in the tune and yes it can be done...The big problem is that when people go 24 x you get novice tuners that try to tune it as an LS1 because of the pcm, its still an Lt1...

We should open a new topic for this...
The methods are the same, each motor has its nuances from afr to timing curve. Different pcms have their differences as well. The biggest issue I've seen are timing tables. I've seen them interpolated completely wrong.

Yup, I know the amount of timing my tuner uses on my car and a friend's is muuuuch less than other -0411 LT1 cars.

How did everything go at the Shootout? Dumb question, but is the drive ability better with the TH, than optispark?

Unrelated to the question but I got to meet the Torqhead guys at the shootout (they came all the way from Canada), very cool guys with a very clean impala ss. The new coil relocation setup they have is very very nice

Motor with the TH setup on it is down for new rings...something wasn't quite right with the last refresh I did on it....will be dropping it off at the machine shop soon.
As far as driveability that I may not be able to answer for you as mine is mainly a race car
