Good Morning all! I did a quick search and came up empty, so I wanted to throw this out there. I picked up a 4L60e out of a '94 Impala for my '94 Formula. Other then the obvious tail shaft housing difference, will this trans work in my bird? Any differences in the electronics, etc.?
Anyone have any first hand experience?

The only difference is the tail housing.

Cahall thanks!
Ok, good. Now that I know that for sure; I finished installing it last night (I didnt want to admit it until I knew for sure it should work) and road tested it this morning. I put it in drive and it will only start out in, I think, 3rd gear. If I manually down shift it into 1, it'll start out in 2 (I'm pretty sure it's 2nd). So, I only have 2 and 3 gears shifting manually. The TQ isnt locking up, at all. lastly, the speedo is WAY off. 15 to 20 mph off.
What did I do wrong? Did I miss plugging something in? I'm assuming the plug on the tail shaft housing is the speed sensor. That plugged in nice. The larger plug on the other side of the tranny felt like it plugged in. Could that be the issue? Could I have not pushed it firm enough?

Did you swap the speedometer gears from your old one to the new one?

3rd gear starts with 2nd only being abled manually is a sure sign of the trans being in "limp mode". Start by double checking all your connections. If everything is connected correctly, you will need to have it scanned. It will have a code for sure.

Still perplexed... checked the harness, it's plugged in solid now and there has been some improvement and another step back. It will shift on its own in D, but still starts in second, even if I put it in 1. Also won't go into 4th. On the plus side it's shifting on its own, from 2 to 3, but it's overheating now too. I'm stumped. Anyone have any other advice?

Ok, taking part of that back. It shifts 2-3-4 good and by its self. Won't go into 1st on its own or manually. No TC lock-up and it's over heating. Pushing fluid out after running it, but not while it's running. As soon as I shut if off and it sits a minute, all of a sudden it starts dripping fluid. Still perplexed...

Sadly I think I'm going to bring it in and have a shop diagnose it. I was hoping not to resort to this, but I've run out of talent at this point.

You need to hook a laptop/scanner up to it and figure our why it's doing this. Years ago when I did LTs on my car, the trans was in limp mode. No first gear. I sent the list of codes to a tuner and got a mail order to resolve the problem and make the car run pretty close to where it should be.

How sure are you that the trans came out of a 94 impala?

The guy I bought if from knew how these go and asked specifically if I was putting it in a '94. No reason not to trust him... yet.

***Update***
So, as it turns out I still didn't have the harness plugged in all the way. :banghead: The good news is that I have all gears and TC lock-up. Bad news is the leak that I though was coming from the cooling lines is coming from the harness input. Do they make a replacement seal for that (I didn't see one out there on the webs) or am I on the hook for a whole new internal harness?
It sucks, by the time I get this squared away the snow will be flying.
Thanks for all the feed back everyone!

There's an o ring that seals the harness connector to the case. The biggest PITA is that you have to drop the pan, remove the 2nd accumulator housing, and pull the pressure control solenoid out of the valve body to remove the plug. It's also fun to try collapsing the4 tabs at once that hold the connector in the case. I have a tool for doing it.
