I'm having an issue with getting the trans in reverse. It was rebuilt during the build the clutch is new just put the tick master cylinder in. It will shift through all 6 forward gears but I can't get it in reverse. I feel like it is the lock out from what I've read. I know it goes in reverse but it took all my 350lb dad's weight to get it in. Is that a lock out issue or something else? If it's lock out can I eliminate it or what do I need to do?

Sounds like lockout. Make sure its plugged in. If it is unplug it and see if you have 12v at the plug with the key on. Report back with what you find. Some people take them out and stick a plug in the hole but i would not recommend that.

Make sure it is plugged in the correct spot. I fought mine for a year and then found out I had it swapped with the skip shift (if I remember correctly).

:face_shocked: It shouldn't take that much force to overcome the plunger spring. Is it hard to shift OVER, or shift UP into reverse? Any grinding?

It's hard to shift up it seems. Like I get it over but can't get it up into reverse

The lockout prevents you from moving the shifter over. I think your problem is elsewhere.

That's not a reverse lockout issue then, more like a synchro or clutch issue.

Can I pull the lockout assembly out and see if that lets it go just to confirm its not the issue or will it be a pain to get it back together

Also little side not the shifter I got was a gift and it's a cheapo. We could get it in reverse relatively easy with the shifter out and a screw driver in the coupler (I'm sure that's not recommended) any chance the shit shifter could be the issue? I think it's a proform it's the one off summit.

Unless its weak and has alot of flex when there is pressure applied it should not really matter.
Do u still have ur stock shifter? If so, swap it out and see if the issue exists

You can remove the lockout solenoid if you still have the problem its not the solenoid.

It's the solenoid. Took it out and it goes in no problems. I'll check the wires for volts when I get more time. The sensor housing is broke but they were still connected just relieved it isn't internal

Great news!
Just remember u have no safety blanket for a shift into reverse now.

I bolted it back in wired to a switch. Might be a bit rigged but it works.

I have heard of guys buying the shift knobs with nitrous button in them and hooking it to the lockout instead.
The engine sensors fuse under the hood controls the lockout also. Mine was blown when I bought my car but I don't know if a 95 is the same.
