Ok, so I found a reasonably priced 10 bolt locally (people want way too much for these things). It's a 3.23 from a '98 Trans Am. I'm not too worried about the ratio after plugging in the info to a calculator. It'll be turning about 100 rpm less at 70 than a 3.42, which I don't think is that big of a deal. Anyway, My question is should I pull the axles and swap the backing plates to keep my current brakes or keep the current axle how it is and upgrade the rear brakes to the LS1 style? Is there even that much difference between the brakes? I do plan on upgrading the fronts down the line, probably to the CTS-V or 5th gen setup. So which would be the better option?

Looks like this won't be an issue. The guy just got a '96 formula 6 speed to part. Things are coming together...

about the ls1 breaks IMO i have done break upgrades in the past.i found that with anti lock breaks and the fact that i don't autocross i have not noticed a difference. so as far as break upgrades go i really think it come's down to doing what you want to your car and how you are gonna use the car such as dragging it,autocross or DD. If DD i would just keep it stock with quality pads.drag i'm still keeping it stock. i think the smaller rotors = less mass and weight. autocross yeah that's when i would look into some upgrades. that's just me i'm sure some will disagree.

I'm probably going to eventually do some autocross/ hpde type stuff, but mostly it'll be a fun weekend car.
