I am wondering how far should I shorten my rear. I am wanting to run 315s with like 4.5s - 5.5s back spacings. Could I run 315s without having any rubbing issues?
I would like post #5 style wheels - http://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-tires/1426696-pics-f-body-narrowed-rears-wheels.html

315's can be run all day long with the BFH mod and removing the bump stop mounts as the cars sit. You can run a lot more backspacing on a TA than a Camaro due to how wide the rear quarters are. I'm running factory C5 rims and could use almost a 2-2.5" spacer to make the wheels flush. I don't have a axle in front of me to measure but I imagine you could only go only about 2" before you have an issue with being able to access the control arm bolts.

315-30-18s on 11" wide wheels... on the camaro... Stock width 9" rear.
Bfh mod and rolled fenders. Lowered 2" with adjustable panhard.
295-40-17s on 9" wide Firehawk wheels on TA... NO mods. All bumps tops still in tact.

I have 295s currently on my TA. I am just trying to fill the wells as much as possible. Not trying to have to roll fenders or any other mods besides the bump stop removal. Not really fast enough to worry about competing in the 275 class so I would like a fitting tire. I would go for 325s if I didnt have to do much work. Im getting lazy at this point!

Yes, I am sitting on 315 rears stock rear and just bought an S60 narrowed 2" a side so that I can run a little less BS on my track wheels.

Back spacing has nothing to do with whether a wheel will rub... more to do with width of tire. you can run a stock 7.5 back spacing with a 15x10 rim on a 295 with no issues. I had 325s but had to cut a bit.
Back spacing is just moving the point at where your wheel is flush with the rotor.
I run a 275 pro on a 15x10 on a 4.5 inch back space. ..
You can go up to a 2 inch back space which is Narrowed 5 inches I'm pretty sure before u run into tubbing it. But your wheel selection becomes very limited.
The most popular Narrowed rear end by far is Narrowed 3 Inches per side with a 15x10 rim. That's how mine is and zero cutting, no rolled fenders as long as your cars shocks aren't blown out and the car doesn't squat...

Dont be afraid of rolling fenders... its not hard. As previously stated it really only needs to be done if car is lowered or if u run a high profile...

Thanks for clearing that up that BS does not deal with rubbing. JCzHawk thanks for the pic for reference. So I guess I will attempt in running 315s. Could I purchase 15x11 wheels? I like the look of 5" back spacing. When I get my S60 how much should I get my rear shortened? 2.25", 2.5" or 3"? Thanks for the responses!

No problem at all, If want some more of a specific angle or spot just let me know.
My 315s went in with only a little deadblow on the fronts of the inner wheel wells. I did no work on or removal of bump stops.
Currently running those Mickey Thompson ET Street 315s on 18x10.5 C5 wheels, so I am not sure how they would look on an 11" wheel. Just hope that won't give you any of that Tuner gap from the wheel to the tire bead.
I agree with dawdaw on the 3" a side, and think that will give you the most options as far as wheels in the future.

So my next concern is should I have a set of rears already picked out before I purchase my rear? Cuz as of right now all I have is the 295 Z06 wheels and nothing else. I dont wanna make that type of call and be SOL and have to spend more money for wheels. Lol

That would make the most sense to me. Find the wheels you want now, giving you the ability to decide based on sizes AND price. Then you know how short you need to go and have the rolling stock ready to pop it all in there at once.
I have my rear just sitting right now, and am hoping to order my wheels/tires this weekend to get everything put in this month.
Two sponsors of this site have quoted me better prices on what I was looking for, than the normal racing part websites. You can send them a quick PM once you find what you want, and they might be able to save you a couple bucks all while supporting our sponsors.

I guess I could purchase the rear and sit it aside until I find the wheels I want. Plus I need to break the motor in before I start beating on it hard. My next issue is having to purchase another DS because my stock one was for a T56 and I have swapped for a TH400. Then when I install the S60, I will need to get another DS. Lol, Welcome to my life!

What wheel do you want to run ... you need to what wheel you want to run and check to see what back spacing widths are available. .. The most common is 3 Inches per side because 90% of wheels have a b.s. available between 4 " to 5"... A 3" narrow with a 4.5 b.s will give you a stock outer wheel to wheel width and give you that deep dish look...
What wheel are you looking at

If you can't decide on one particular wheel post up what all you're looking at...

My 9" is shortened 2.5" per side and I'm using a 15X10 with 5.5" BS BS Street Lite. It sits the same depth in the wheel well as the stock setup. Please contact us or American powerhouse for any of your parts needs! We can both usually beat the big name parts stores and will try our best to help out the members of this site.

Another pic of my stock 315's to show the clearance on a stock LCA. I have Hotchkis ones to go on mine.

Can I run 315s on a 15x10 wheel? Im loving these:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Weld-Racing/927/77LB-510A35A/10002/-1?parentProductId=2937778
This would determine how much the rear would get shortened.

Those ARE sick looking!
I usually check the manufacturer on the tires. For example on Mickey Thompson's site, their Street Comp's in 315/35/17 says 10.5-12.5 for "approved rims."

I will check. Only thing is that the tire size jumps from 15x10 to 15x12. Which I dont know if that makes a difference in getting the rear shortened anymore or having to mini tub which is what I dont wanna do.
