As the title implies, who has the best base line mail order tune for a turbo application? I already sent my computer off before to PCM For Less for a tune. But I got so many people telling me unless Bryan tuned it, it wouldnt be the best tune......... Who also does a good speed density tune?

Thanks for any input!

You should mail order a dyno tune..... :D

Seriously, dont do a mail order tune for a turbo car.

My tuner flat out said no to giving me any tune unless the car was there in person and able to be strapped down.

i agree with the above posts... to many variables and just a little off on the fuel and you will be toasting some pistons.

Im not turbo... but im still boost amd i also agree. Hands on for tuning boost... unless its just to start up or get it to the dyno...

With a turbo'd LT1 car, you really have to be with the car to tune it. It's not an extremely common thing to see, so every setup is very different and unique.

OP keep in mind, this ^^^ is one of our site TUNERS as well. If that helps you.

Thanks a lot for the input guys! The reason why I was asking is for start up purposes and engine break in reasons. I wasnt planning on running it hard or anything. Just like a safe turbo tune ya know? I was planning on doing a dyno tune once I was done with break in

"Safe turbo tune" and mail order still dont mesh. Mail order is a NO BOOST tune. Start up... and idle... cruise break in is about it.

i agree, its only going to be safe if you keep it out of boost.

So my understanding of staying outta boost is easy on the gas? What would be my rpm limit?

Unless you have the logging capabilities and someone who knows EXACTLY what they are doing, I wouldn't even chance that. there's alot of guessing involved. Alot of logging

Baby the hell out of it, I wouldn't get anywhere near spooling anything, run it with the charge pipe disconnected until you get to a tuner

That was my intial thought! Lol! I asked guys over on LS1Tech and they said it would be stupid to run with the charge pipe off. So do this during the break in period?

not sure why running without the charge pipe would be that bad of an idea. but you could also take the wastegate off and just make a pipe to replace it.
granted i would still be really careful it might still build some boost.

If it's not a ls1 LS1tech basically trolls you.

I know I have told you before, but LS1tech is right on this, believe me you won't make boost like a diesel. Toss a baby wastegate spring in it, and drive it normally.

I had trouble making my turbo (a small mid frame T4 unit not the monster you have) spool just putzing around, you won't a have an issue staying in vaccum or just at positive pressure.

Taking the charge pipe off...

for my Boost setup i sent me ECM off to Bill @BPAutomotive. gave him a rundown of my set up and a week or so later i had a base line for initial start up (whenever that actually happens)

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. Will be taking the charge pipe off. I will disconnect it right before the MAF sensor

I'm talking about mail order turbo tune popo8 . If you have a tuner that has done a bunch, or has his own turbo lt1, and you have the proper logging and tuning software, it can be done, but I wouldn't chance it after the crap that I've been thru with simple na tunes to a basic boost tune.

I was saying be careful with a keep it safe mail order tune if you don't have logging capabilities, even na, that was my point. Go with a competent tuner who has a very good track record if you do. Just because it's a na basic idle tune, doesn't mean it can't be totally wrong and hurt something. Too many "tooners" out there now on the interwebs
