I'm looking for a stock 3.42 rear for my T56 swap, and I found one on craigslist. It's from a 2001 trans am, so I know it'll take a little work to swap the backing plates and I think it's a 4 channel rear. Not really worried about losing the worthless abs system. It has the TA rear cover on it, but I don't know what else was done to the rear. He's asking $450 for it. Is that too much? Should I keep looking?

Ok, good too know. Seems like everything I find around here is either a 2.73 rear or they think they're made of gold. I'm going to Houston at the end of next month, maybe there will be better deals there.

I sold mine a few weeks ago and had 4 or 5 people asking about it. It was stock with about 80k miles, Richmond 3.73s and stock diff cover. Sold it for my asking price on Craigslist (250) to a guy who blew up his rear in an ls1 Z28.

I payed $75 for the 3.42 rear in my car now and sold the 2.73 rear that I pulled out for $50 lol

Ok, I thought that price seemed pretty high. Now I just need to find one somewhat nearby. I'd guess shipping would suck on one of these.

I have mine out of a 95 T/A with 4.10 s, needs shimmed, but you can have it for 150.

Never mind, I figured it out, Tapatalk confuses me sometimes. Any idea what shipping might cost on that?

Haha, I'm in northern Illinois right now. Flying back to New Orleans today. I'm guessing shipping is not gonna be cheap on it. If you can find out though, and it's not crazy expensive, let me know. I've had no luck finding anything local. Also, what do you mean by it needs to be shimmed? How tedious of a job is that and does it require any special tools?

I had new gears put in it and it had a whining noise. I don't think it requires special tools, but it does required experience, it has less than 500 miles on gears.

Well if the shipping isn't crazy, I'll definitely be interested.

I'm thinking I might just order some gears for my current rear and have a shop do the swap. That will probably be my easiest option. I'll probably go ahead and order the TA girdle too.

Ok, one more question. If I get an LS1 10 bolt, what would I need to run it as is? It's a 3 channel like mine, so no issue there. Would I just need the rotors and calipers? I'm planning on upgrading the front brakes to LS1 style brakes soon, and eventually the C6Z rotors/CTS-V calipers, so the "better" rear brakes would be a good idea anyway, right?
