Alright guys here it is. College student not a whole lot of doll hairs. My 95 z seems to run Fairley good hang with if not beat some ls cars 2:73s drag radials etc.. Anyway I'm going with some 3:73 and I would like to go with a 3000 stall. What's the best bang for your buck stall out their obviously don't want something cheap but as everyone says the more money the better. Opinions ?

Well it will make more heat. And heat kills transmissions. But that with any converter. If the trans is on its last leg then it wont help any. But if the trans is in good shape as long and u get a good trans cooler it should be fine. And a tune will be a good idea

Revmax

While some have had good luck with Revmax, we see more failures among them and Edge than any other converter. Datalogs have also shown both to be very inefficient converters on the top end. Many we've seen from both companies are nothing more than a 4 cylinder S-10 converter with a ring bolted to the pads so that it bolts to n LT flexplate. The failure rate is so bad with these 2 companies that we won't warranty a trans with either one. Their inefficiency causes excessive heat, and when they fail, they take the trans with them. If you do some research on them, you will find more people that don't like them as opposed to those who do.

I've been running Edge Racing converters for over six years without issues. I think my results over the years speak for themselves.
31120
311214200 LB Impala SS with a 3200 stall 9.5" Protorque... 9.91 @ 139 MPH with a 1.39 60 ft time.
What modifications are done to the engine? What is the cam duration? Still full weight? How much street driving do you do?

I also will be running pro torque due to the fact that it's a peace of mind and you can't compete with a track record like they have Frank told me time and a timeout you got to spend your money wisely if you want your trans last

If you venture onto any 4th gen fbod site, you will get told Vig/Yank/FTI/Circle D/Edge are good. I can't say I have ever heard of a failure from the first four.
I can say I have never heard of protorque outside of CPT pushing them. Not saying thats bad or not, but just stating my observations.
Just cause a company makes great converters for promod cars at prob well over a few grand [and not lock up i would guess] doesn't mean they do well at cheap entry level stuff. (not directed at protorque specifically)
I'm not going to get drug into an argument about torque converters. what I will point out is that I deal with these cars, with these transmissions and these converters on a daily basis. Anyone commenting in this thread has 1 car to worry about. I have hundred to worry about. Now, since it's been pointed out, how many of the people posting even have a 4L60E in their car? I've been using Protorque converters since 2001. I've been selling them since 2004. Why? Simply because they're the best made. I own a transmission shop. This gives me the ability to market and sell whatever brand of converter I'd like. I've talked to every converter manufacturer there is. I would get the same discount from any of them, so I'd make the same money on any of them. My objective is to offer my customers the best converter available, as well as educate them on the one's that have high failure rates and don't perform very well. Since 2001, I've sold hundreds of Protorque converters. I've never had one fail, nor have I ever had one not perform as advertised. The advantage I have is that I'm not just a transmission builder. I'm very involved in all other aspects of the car community. This allows me to get feedback from customers via dyno numbers, datalogs, and dragstrip performance. Many times, I've been at the track or the dyno with them. The testing done in these enviroments prove how efficient a converter is or isn't. I've seen the horsepower loss through and Edge and I've seen how much they slip on the top end. The failure rate among Edge and Revmax is very well publicized. We've had customers go through 3 Edge converters in a years time. One of the other advantages I have is access to a local converter shop. They do my cut and cleans for me. This is how we found out that the Edge is an unmodified 4 cylinder converter. It also explained the high failure rate and their inefficiency. Yes, they will give you more stall, but at the cost of top end power. I also work very closely with several engine builders, head porters, and tuners to collect as much information and data as possible. Now, with that being said, we have customers who are also running very well with Yank, Circle D, and Vigilante converters as well as a couple local converter builders. The ONLY converters that we won't warranty a trans if they use them are Edge and Revmax. I think some people may actually want to check the prices we sell Protorque converters for in relation to their list price. I don't mark the converters up very much at all. I don't make much money selling converters. Why don't I mark them up? Because I'd rather my customer be able to afford a QUALITY converter instead of putting a hand grenade in front of a fresh trans build.

Pro torque makes a fantastic converter. .. Are they the best ? It's a matter of opinion. .. they make a great converter as do some other names like Ati , Neal chance, ptc...
Ultimately the more data you supply on a combination with dyno sheets etc, the better a company can build a converter for you and your cars needs. and you pay for what you get..
