So I'm in the market for a rear end and though I was going to go with a s60 since this car is coming out the whole hard but the I was told go with a 12 bolt it will be fine the go with a Mwc 9 so I'm so confused what to go with now. Any help would be thoughtful thanks guys. Have a 3800 stall 175 shot and it will have full bolt on suspension for the car

I bought this for my dad and he decided to give his spooled s60 a chance.
Here's Ryans ad. The rear is paid for, just at his house but I need to pick it up anyway

To be totally honesty would rather buy new since it's one of the biggest investment in ur drivetrain

Ok... thats ur call. Lots of great deals... got my 9" with locker and 3.90s...35 spline axels for 1500 bucks... less than half what it would have cost to build... from brake to brake...shipped. Upon inspection...the thing was all but brand new.

If u have the funds to go new... id still say s60...id say either a locker or spool if ur gonna be serious about racing it... and nothing less than 31 splines...

So no 9 inch from mwc

S60 is pretty much bullet proof but heavy, Ford 9 can be done pretty cheap, tough and parts can be found under every rock, 12 bolt is the best on HP loss. If your gonna launch with spray, the 60 or 9 are your best bet. Personally, I'm going with a Quick Performance 9.

Its up to u... personally if i had the money... i like the quality and look of the 60. But again its personal experience... give the members a chance to chime in. My rear purchase was based on finding a great deal... not ordering exactly what i wanted. In fact...a locker behind a 6 spd is loud and clunky.

I have a Moser 12 bolt in mine and I know two turbo Camaro's that run at my local track with the same rear and a spool down the high 8's in the 1/4.

If you are buying new and making an investment of that caliber, the s60 is a no brainer. Can't break it. I launch with a big shot on the trans brake at 4400 and it doesnt skip a beat. No mods to fit it. Direct bolt in. Get a good drive shaft made up and call it a day. They have raised their price on them quite a bit though. When you throw it in, you will find your weak points elsewhere.

I would get that dana 60 from firebird_1995. ... It's a steal and it's bullet proof and was treated well from the previous owner with yearly oil changes. . But if your hell bent on getting a new one you will spend 2 grand more then the one he has for sale

There on sale right now can get a s60 with a Detroit locker for 2400 bucks

I paid $2600 for S60 with 35 spline axles and a true trac locker. Drive shaft was another $330 and shipping was $200.

$1600 with driveshaft, brakes, locker and narrowed 2" is a steal. Can't go wrong with that deal. IMO.

Bad timing for me or I would buy for my other car.

I have well under 2k into my QP 9" and used a stock 9" housing and posi that was rebuilt and a set of QP 3.89s. Paid another 350 for a Spohn driveshaft. I have a thread on the QP unit, it's a nice piece. I think I paid 1050 just for the fabbed housing, tq arm mount, and Moser 31 splines.

Cons:
Just behind a stick its constantly locking in and out... its notchy... loud.... sounds like things are breaking non stop.... ITS JUST OBNOXIOUS.... pros....ummmm, lol... its a locker. lol
Chris used to have a video in a parking garage with his old one behind a 6spd.

I hear they are much more tame behind an auto...

I run a the true trac locker with spiral gears and a 6spd. 230/236 cam with112 lobe separation. If you try to chug it along you can hear the locker engage and disengage, keep the RPM's in check while cruising it's not a problem. With the spiral gear, anytime the rear is under a load it locks. So if your chugging along with an aggressive cam it will lock and unlock with the mild cam surge. Keep RPMs in check and it's no issue. I'm talking 1,700 to 1,900 cruising RPM's. 2000 RPM's I'm good.

Watch what you get with a 9". I watched Arod6692 twist a stock axle shaft off, seen chris's stock center section blown to bits, and multiple pinion carriers busted. A stock 9" is strong (er) than a 10 bolt but certainly not bulletproof just because it's a 9"

If you call strange they are going to recommend their house brand worm gear style diff similar to the TruTrak. I would purchase this over the locker. The TruTrak od S-trac as I believe they are called has no serviceable parts and are built rock solid. They are made to last forever. If you have not spoken with anyone yet, josh at bdb is a sponsor on here and a dealer for strange. Ask him to get you a quote

Just put a Strange S60 with the Detroit locker under my 94Z28 6 speed last winter. It is a bit loud and takes a little getting used, you really do think that something is breaking when you first hear it operate. I also upgraded my entire rear suspension in the process too, which took a little bit to get setup the way I wanted it. It also gets better once you get it broken in and learn how to drive it better, it really only makes noises locking/unlocking now when I have to make a sharper turn and give some it some gas. Going straight you can't even tell the difference other than when you really get on it hard. After getting it broken in I did some hard launches and its amazing the difference from the old 10 bolt. Not having to worry about snapping it in half is another great part about it.

If you plan on drag racing and getting up in the high HP/TQ, the locker is the best bet. If you want more of a street car and daily drive, you might want to consider one of the other options like the Tru Trac. My car is a garage queen these days and spends more time sitting than getting driven unfortunately, thanks to all the traveling I do for work. Also, once you do the rear end, start preparing to do the transmission. That's the next step on my list now, my T56 is already starting to making more noise thanks to all the testing I did after breaking in the S60. :-)

I have a pro race built trans from Cpt frank with a hardened output shaft I will be buying a strange drive shaft with chrome Molly trans yoke and the s60 that I'm going to order has a upgraded from receiver for the drive shaft so drive line will be stout for nitrous launches

Sounds like you should be all set then. I also ordered my driveshaft from Strange, it was a top gun unit with all the upgrades. Everything should swap over from your old 10 bolt but mine was so rusted that I just ended up replacing everything on mine.

Got 10 strange brand screw in studs sheared off in a bucked from my dad's car (spooled s60) to back up what Ryans saying. Plan on investing in a rim that takes shanked lug nuts and extra studs, as a matter of fact I would go ahead and have them upgrade you to the 1/2" studs if you haven't already. Preferably ARP brand.
