After replacing my rear end with a S60 and spohn top gun driveshaft, I'm now looking to take care of the next weak link in the drivetrain, my T56. Its still entirely stock and never been rebuilt with over 120K on it, so it is definitely going to need to be rebuilt or replaced. I've done some research and I've seen 3 main options from Tick, RPM Transmissions, and Rockland Standard Gear. I was told by both Tick and RPM that the T56 magnum can't be used on my 94 Z28 LT1, although Tick's website claims that it can for some reason. Tick also didn't seem very interested in helping me any further after I asked it about the magnum, while RPM said that the best option would be to rebuild and use straight cut gears that would be able to handle the 900-1000 torque that my final goal is. I haven't talked to anyone at Rockland but it seems the Tranzilla option according to what I've found on the internet is a pretty pricey option.

Is the magnum entirely out of the question? It seem like a great option and could hold the torque I plan on making, but RPM said that it can't be used due to the pusher style clutch on the LT1. Converting the clutch wouldn't be an issue if I can get the parts need to do so.

Anyone have an further info that could help out on my decision? I really don't want to try rebuilding it myself, I would much prefer the peace of mind knowing that an expert that has done this before did the build. I plan on taking out the current T56 here shortly, as the winter is now here and I won't be driving my car again until late March at the earliest. So time to send it off and getting the current T56 rebuild won't be much of an issue. I'm also not looking at some ridiculous low budget price target as I know this is going to cost some money, but I would rather spend some money now and not have to worry about it breaking later down the line. Also, please don't tell me to stick an automatic in, as that is not going to happen. Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

They're saying the magnum won't work because the pull style clutch on our cars needs the mount on the front of the trans case for the clutch fork. To use a Magnum you'd need to convert to an LS style pusher clutch. That would require a new clutch, bell housing, and hydraulics. Another benefit to converting to the LS clutch is the wider options of available clutches. This conversion has been done there was a really detailed write up on it but the site it was hosted on is no longer active. You might PM @Formula383 (http://ltxtech.com/forums/member.php?u=45), he is who did the write up and conversion. The T56 can take alot of abuse, you might contact Liberty's Gears (http://www.libertysgears.com/) abut upgrading yours. They offer several different options and do most of the machine work for the majority of other trans shops. To use your LT1 T56 with an LS clutch you'll also need an LS input shaft but they can take care of that for you. American Powertrain (http://americanpowertrain.com/)is another option for the magnum and they can probably get you most of the parts you need for the conversion, they specialize in conversions. Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I will look into those options as well.

Holy Toledo, what kind of build you have going on to be in that 900+ range?!

About 650-700 N/A with a direct port dual stage nitrous for about 300HP on top.

I haven't started building the engine yet, I'm getting everything else taken care of first. I've had the car since I was 18 (bought her right after my birthday) and I've always wanted to build a ridiculous LT1/T56 drag car out of her. Never had the money when I was younger so I did what I could and got up above the 400 mark. Now I've got the money I just wish I had the all the time I used to have when I was younger. Ah well, I'll get there eventually.

Hey guys. I know I'm not around as often as I used to be, but here's a cached version of my write up. Sorry I took the site down, I just don't use it any more so it's not worth the monthly cost for hosting. Anyways, hope this helps a little.
