Needs some answers about tuning LT1's. I have a 383 with a 222, 226 .510 lift cam, 30lbs injectors. Yeah small cam for a 383 but I wanted a driver not a weekend only car. I had PCM for Less tune the PCM and everything runs good. But.... My idle is set for 800 in park and 850 in Drive. I called PCM for less back and Bryan seem to think that was fine where it was. I can't even hear the cam in the car. I should hear a little something. When I first fired the car up I could hear the cam around 700 - 750. Bryan said that idling a car that low will run like shit. I’ve seen people online with 700 idle speed. I’m old school Chevy so tuning a computer is a new thing for me. I know little about it but enough to get started. I rather change something small such as idle and see how the car runs. Can’t hurt to see for myself. I did buy an ALDL cable and now in need of a program that will work for me. And if any of my Delaware peeps could help me out with this that would be great. I’d be glad to make a trip into Jersey also.

FYI I set my idle on my Hotcam for 800, at 750 it wanted to surge and stall. Cats tuner is what I used, and it's in the idle speed table. Smaller cam on large displacement makes it less noticeable. NightTrain66 can explain.

the longer stroke will make a cam seem milder in a 383 compared to what it would be like in a 350/355.
Not sure of the LSA of that cam but if it is on a 112 LSA it would sond about like a GM Hot Cam does in a stock 350/355 or maybe even slightly milder.

Hotcam on a bolt on 350 at 800 rpm. Do you have cats on it? That kills cam sound too especially if small.

Yeah bigger motor less of a cam you'll hear. I know when I first fired up the car and it was learning I could hear the cam and it wasn't big but you could tell there was a cam. NightTrain66 we've e-mailed each other a week ago about a set of heads and cam. The cam I have now is a 112 Erson 222 226 @.050. TubbyFormy did you have a stall when you set the idle that low?

Nope stock stall. stock cam these things idle way low in gear, something like 575-600 i think. the bigger cam stock bottom end car has a 2500 pro torque and is set to 875, any lower and she gets crabby, especially in traffic

Interesting. Guess I just picked the wrong cam lol. I'm old school chevy. I had an 1980 z with 383 4 speed. Cam was 110 244 252.

So I lowered the Idle on the car to 750 and it seems to be fine as of right now. I haven't driven it much because the alternator is bad.
