My friend broke his posi unit saturday night. This winter he is putting a 9" in the car so he dont want to spend any money on the ten bolt. He asked me what i thought welding the spider gears together. There one more event he wants to run in this year. Its a cam car on 100 shot. I told him i would be worried about breaking a axle, and it and the wheel coming off going down the the track, what's your opinion on this. I can se his point about not wanting to spend alot of money on the ten bolt.

What did he break? I'd look into finding a used 10 bolt for the last event, welding it will cause it to act like a spool. Plus there's no guarantee it'll last the entire race.

I would tell him that welded spiders have come apart and put cars sideways and across lanes or directly into walls. No!

Thats what i was thinking. I tod him to run it how it is. Wont 60', but i think thats safer than welding the spider gears. I told him to try and spray it out of the hole to see if the extra power would make it work right. It works in the water box but stop as soon as he comes out. Then stops. You can see it work again around the 60' mark, works off and on

One race event isn't worth the car being put into a wall.

Do it right.

Imo. I wouldn't risk it with that type of rear. Way to many weak points for it to fail.

i've seen some 10 bolt axles snap with a posi, i dont think could handle the abuse of a spool/welding the gears.
