Okay, I bought a mini spool a few months back when my auburn unit started to fade out. I've got all the guts of the carrier pulled and the mini spool all bolted in, but it seems like there is too much side to side play. I figured the block would be really snug between the two splined sides, but it actually has a little slop in it. Is there any way to shim the two side pieces of the spool farther in towards the blocks to make it fit tighter or is there supposed to be a little room?

I always thought mini spools were for open differentials only. What part number are you working with?

Take it out, sell it, and buy a new 10 bolt.

Its a Motive unit i bought off of jegs, I dont have the part number here in front of me though. If i can figure out a shim that just fits over the axle, I think I can make it work. I would much rather just have another auburn, but I really dont have the funds to buy one and go through the hassle of swapping the gears over.

Okay, after thinking things through I believe I have the solution. I went to Rural King and bought 1 1/4" inside diameter 14 gauge machine bushings. They fit right over the axle perfectly and with just one on each side, it takes up virtually every bit of slack in the middle of the spool. I havent had a chance to take it out on the street yet since my tranny is still out, but I think this will work perfect. I have way more piece of mind having the extra bushings in there now.
