what would you consider a safe distance to keep wiring from hot exhaust/turbo parts, with or without heat shield or some kind of thermo wrap?

A couple inches, really depends on how sensitive to heat your wiring is.

I would make sure to wrap all your hot side with heatwrap and then get the wiring as far as you can away from it. My boost controller solenoid and wiring is entirely too close to turbo flange but, has yet to be a problem.

factory harness, so i figure its going to be halfway resilient to heat. i do plan on wrapping everything, but i'm in a similar situation, my flange is a little close to the factory harness, i'm hoping to move it to the bottom of the frame rail but not sure if i can get enough slack for that.
my turbo is bolted to the frame rail so the wiring going to the fuse box is going to be running pretty close.

You are talking about the wire bundle that runs along the inside frame rail from the firewall/brake booster area?

If so, you can always run it on the inside of the wheel well if you get creative.

And be prepared to extend some stuff too........

FWIW mine was holding up OK with a turbo downpipe (wrapped with DEI) hugging the frame rail right next to the harness. But long term.......it's why I decided to relocate it.

what all did you have to extend? i'm fine doing a few here or there but if i got to really hack into the harness i think i rather move the turbo lol

I had to extend quite a few if not all but I also went through the fender support rather than through the fender well.
