Hello all, just wondering if anybody has thrown 4.56s in a t56 car? Or reasons why you shouldn't do that.

For a street car I would stay away. Your cruising rpm's will be high and it will drink fuel like a fat kid eats twinkies. I had a car with 4.56's in it, 1st was useless, 2nd was almost useless and I think I could have started the car from a dead stop in 4th if I really had wanted to.

4.10s were about the max that I would do. Had them in my old 10 bolt. They were fun. UNLESS ur running some super tall tire, I wouldnt go any steeper. 1st realy was no longer necessary with the 4.10s

LTXtech.com is my DRUG!

Maybe if you were running a 29" rear tire and the motor was built to spin real high like Taner's. For a street car with a 7k cap, it would be a waste.

I don't think I would go that high , I have 4.30s and love them , I don't think 1st gear feels that short in my car even with a 25 tall tire . also I need a 28 inch tire in the 1/4

Just to put things in perspective, with a 94 and up T56 (93 ratios are all different), running 26" tires:

RPM @ 70 MPH in 6th gear:

3.42 - 1,550 RPM
3.73 - 1,690 RPM
4.10 - 1,855 RPM
4.56 - 2,065 RPM

I'm going to be the devil's advocate and say if you don't mind high RPMs on the highway and like to row the gears, then do it. It's your $$

@6 speed impy (http://ltxtech.com/forums/member.php?u=6132) has them with his t56 conversion in his SS.

My bro set it up that way, and also runs a taller 275/50/17, which is somewhat oddball, but it helps that big tank move but is like 2100 or so at 75

The only reason I would shy away from a 4.56 gear in the 10 bolt would be pinion size. 4.56 gears would have to have a very small pinion. The difference between 3.42 and 4.10 is pretty amazing, let alone going to a 4.56. If you are making much power at all, the teeth of the pinion would definitely become a weak point.

I like it. I'm going to do it and I kinda already bought the gears.... I now have an expensive ticking time bomb. With Moser axles, richmond powertrax, and soon to be motive 4.56s. Just need an installation kit and an installer. Anyone know of some one good to put those in near n/w Ohio. Willing to travel a little bit.

Where are you at in northwest ohio? I'm originally from near defiance and just live across the state line south of Jackson, Michigan. I'd help you set them up. I'm not a pro at it, but my rear doesn't whine.
