Lets do some brainstorming.
Current setup

So, the thought is, maybe take the filter and run it down out under the bumper/fender area.
Thoughts?

You may be pulling some hot air in from the radiator, but if you move it, the offset is that your turbo is going to have to combat the inlet. It's a give/take. I'd leave it as-is. That's a nice large filter too.

Just thinking out loud here, kinda wanna get a nice log of IATs then maybe move it so that the turbo gets cooler air.
Would be a 4" pipe with maybe one small bend to drop the filter down below the frame rail.

I see what you're after. That hole in the fender area is begging to be stuffed with some pipe. Nice long sweep mandrel bent four inch and I think you'll be fine. Hell you may even find just moving it over to the fender area (without the 90° down) will give you cooler temps without the extra friction.

Yea, its close and its def got to be colder air.
I was thinking a jog down and then out under frame rail, tack a bracket to the pipe and attach to frame rail.
Gotta see where I can source aluminum pipe.

are u ever gonna drive it in rain?
if not... do a 90 down of the tubo and put the filter pointin down...
orrrrr
maybe som flat stock as a deflector or scoup that will focus air into the filter without relocating it

I would rather stick it into a cubby hole like the stock CAI would, cept on PAX side. Shielded from rain, puddles, tears of opti owners etc.

Like all things on the internet, never posted if the CAI helped or not with IATs.

It'll have to make more than 9# of boost at 90mph before you'll see any opti tears

I mean, it only makes 10psi max, and it does that usually well before 90mph ;)
So, that aside, consensus is this little mod couldn't hurt correct?

I don't think so. Get some good baseline data logs, coolant temp, ambient air temp, iat at full boost @ specific rpm, and what psi full boost is (and I know ain't 10# you sandbagger) with the setup now and after the mod and see what the results are.

That is my plan, gonna see if I can fab something up quick in steel, then switch to aluminum if it works well.
(And dead serious, it went what it did on 10#)

Good plan. Can't wait to see it at the shootout. Love seeing stock headed cars getting good results. Gives me hope for mine (non ported heads now but on the hunt for le2's in the future). You planning on turning up the wick soon?

mine is reversed from your set-up, but i think the exact same thing could be done.
