I've got a used stage 3 from a friend. It's not spec. However, I would like a new puck disk to put in there. Do you think I could use the other parts but put a brand new spec stage 3 puck disk in? I can get the brand it is next time I'm at my dads on Thursday. And send u pics via pm.

You gould get a disc from a parts store or I can see what other brands offer just the disc but Spec only sell kits. They don't sell just the friction disc, I believe McLeod does. When you can see what brand it is and we'll go from there.

So it's not possible for you to just get discs for less than through spec directly? I'm looking into getting a stage 1 or 2 disc.

I just sent an email to Spec to double check but to my knowledge they only sell complete kits. I know the clamping force of their pressure plates (PP) is more than a stock one and that's what their disc's are made to work with. A PP with less clamping force would carry a lesser torqure rating than what Spec advertises with their kits. I'll post up Spec's response as soon as they get back with me.

I know they say that about stock ones but pretty much all replacement clutch kits come with the LT4 style PP. There's the Valeo PP from Mexico and the mystery PP from China that's stamped C70043. I've seen Spec plates that have had either marking in addition to blue paint (however, only the Chinese ones on recent Spec kits I've seen b/c I think Valeo discontinued their PP). I have an LT4 style pressure plate and I think it should work.
I know the differences in thickness is negligible for everything but the 3+. All Spec does is mill the standard PP .040".

Sorry for not getting back sooner, it seems I was wrong and it looks like I can get just the disc's. Their disc's are made to work with their PP clamp load for the higher TQ rating. For info in this please read THIS (http://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-transmission/799810-pressure-plate-question.html) thread.
Spec's disc's are different thicknesses and with the kit the PP is setup for that thickness. So to use your own PP with a new disc you'll need to know what thickness disc the PP you have is setup for. For reference the Stage 1 and 2 Spec disc's are .320" and the stage 3 is .355"-.360". Failure to use the correct PP with the correct disc (setup for different thickness's) will lead to early clutch failure. Not to mention drive-ability and safety issues, car movement with clutch pedal depressed or excessive slipping from not fully engaging.

I've seen that ongoing argument between WRD and Spec and I think he's brings up a valid point. I found out that all Spec pressure plates, regardless of stage, are the same in construction from one of their techs. There's no difference in clamping load between the plates because I was told that I could swap discs from different stages. This was assuming had the appropriate amount milled off of the pressure plate face to accommodate the added thickness (.040" for the 3+ I was asking about at the time). My friend has a Spec Stage 1 on this 95Z and it was stamped with the very same #C70043, the only difference was the color. I compared it to mine and couldn't find a single difference in the spring pieces (they look like straps) and their mounting points were identical. I can't say that I'm convinced.
When I asked about the 3+ disc I think the price he gave me was $289. Would you be able to get it for any less?

That sounds correct, I know they're PP's clamp harder than a stock ones but your probably right that the different stages are just milled for different friction disc's. I've compaired Spec, Centerforce, Ram, and Zoom.....all are stamped the same but some had a noticeably different heavyness in the pedal, which tells me there's something different! PM sent on the 3+.
