I'm a bit of a noob. I can replace parts but diagnosis isn't my strong point.

ive got a 95 z28 that had a trans rebuild about 10k ago.

launched hard about a year back and started getting a gravelly noise coming from the front of trans/tc/rear of motor area. It's only there at take off or under load with brakes applied (power brake). No noise in neutral or while at speed unless I kick it down.

No loose tc to flexplate bolts. Doesn't seem to be exhaust rattle or cat from what I can tell.

any ideas?

Any chance you can get a video that would let use hear the sound?

That was a thought but it's not constant nor does it exist without the car in gear.

That's certainly a perfectly done video for what you're trying to capture. Cahall

You'll have to pardon my internet stupidity but is that sarcasm?

I can make something new if it helps as I know I'm asking for assistance.

I actually think Fastbird was complimenting you on the video, because it definitely helps with diagnosis. This very well could be a cracked flexplate. However, I have heard torque converters make the same noise when a bearing starts to go bad.

No I was definitely applauding you for the video because I don't think it could have been captured any better. Excellent job.
Cahall, man that was a QUICK response. That's for the quick feedback on it Frank.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

edwards transmissions tried to say it was an exhaust rattle against the frame and I know for a fact that's not true.

i wasn't trying to be a dickhead. It's cold and Sunday so I just tried to get the best I could and I'm kind of internet illiterate when it comes to sarcasm.

BTW- tci flexplate and the higher stall (96-97 blazer) tc as a replacement? I don't plan on doing much more to the car (borla cat back, moroso cai, long tubes/y coming this summer).

Stay away from the S-10 style converters. They were originally built for 4 cylinders, so they're not very capable of handling the LT1. We see alot of failures and inefficiencies with those converters. Inefficient converters hurt fuel economy and MPH. They also generate excessive heat. I can get you a nice converter from Protorque that has a little more stall than stock for $350 shipped to you. These are quality converters that are built by the best converter company in the country. Check that flexplate before you drop the money on a converter though. If you need a Flexplate, talk to Gail at American Powerhouse. She's also a vendor on this site. She can get you better prices than anywhere else. 27563

In fairness to them, diagnosing it on a lift and through a normal drive don't really replicate the problem. You would have to be next to something and stand on the gas or put it under load with the brakes on. I should have walked out and spoken to the tech rather than the guy at the desk.

A good transmission shop will let the tech get in the car with you and have you replicate the noise. I've been on hour long test drives with customers, just to try to get their transmission to replicate their complaint.

When I was Auto back in the day I had a Pro torque Converter, Best customer service, and the converter was perfect for my setup..

Anyone know which flexplate to use?

Externally balanced, 153 tooth, and 10.75" bolt pattern matches stock, correct?
