Thinking hard about throwing a stock rear/torque arm and transmission back in the T/A and letting her go. It's a 96 w/o Trac Control. Will any 4th gen 3 channel work? Are 6 bangers the same?

No. The 5th Gens have a fully independent rear suspension.

Whats the difference in trac control and non trac control.
Traction control (option RPO "NW9") has a 4-channel (ABS + Traction control) wheel speed sensor setup. One sensor on each front hub, and one sensor on each rear hub. The brake system has an independent line to each rear brake. Without traction control (and it was not available in 1994, even though it is in the factory literature) there is only a single rear wheel speed sensor (ABS only) in addition to the 2 front sensors (= 3 channel). The sensor sits on top of the differential housing, and reads a reluctor gear on the diff carrier. There is only one brake line to the rear of the car, splitting to two line in a "tee" on top of the diff housing.

the 93-97 hubs on the axles are slightly bigger than the 98-02 ... SO what that means is the LTx wheels will fit the LSx cars no issue ... but the LS wheels WONT fit the LT cars in the rear without slightly opening it up

Nothing says you "can't" do it, but what you end up doing is displacing the aluminum around the wheel hub by pulling the wheel onto the hub with the wheel studs.
Even ground down with a grinder, we have had to smack wheels off with a deadblow or 4x4

See thats why I didnt think there was a dif. There was no struggle. they went on with no sign of strain between the two. ALWAYS learnin I guess.

You sure the wheels and axles were OEM from the chassis they supposedly were from?

3 of them were for sure. One was a knock off replacement to replace a bent rim.

The rear hubs were 0.030" larger on the 4th Gens, up to very late 96 model year. By 97 they had changed the rear hubs to match the front hub. I have a writeup covering this on another site, and Shoebox has a similar writeup on his site.
http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#wheel_mod
When SLP was selling the takeoff wheels from their 97 and later SS conversions, they advised that the wheel hub holes had to be opened up "the thickness of a sheet of paper" to make them fit on earlier 4th Gens.
The reason the rear axle hubs did not match the front hubs was because GM took the 10-bolt rear axle assembly from the S10 pickup parts box, and didn't bother to change the hubs to match the 4th Gen fronts, at least not until 97.

i feel smart ... thanks guys
you dont even have to open them up ... just slowly tighten them down in a star pattern and they will seat after a while but it can be a bitch to get them off

The car you were working on may have had the rear end swapped to the late model (LS) style Larry.

Good chance you will develop stress cracks in the wheel by forcing the wheel over the oversize hub.

I just took a die grinder and smoothed out the 'lip' on my LS WS6 wheels I used to run. But Have TT2's if I go back to the stock rear. no issue here.

http://ltxtech.com/forums/showthread.php?11267-ZR1-s-don-t-fit-(
I had the same issue with OEM ZR1 wheels not fitting on my T/A. Had no idea that the hubs were different amongst the fourth gens until then. Little bit of grinding and they fit like they should.
To the OP- stock 10 bolts are around. I would look for one that will work with your car since that is the easiest bet. No need to tamper with it.
