This has really only happened 2-3 times since I've owned the car and its not really been very predictable. It only happens when I really get into the throttle and its almost as if you were driving a manual trans and missed a gear and revved up high. The fluid is still clean and does not smell burnt at all. I went ahead and bought a filter kit for it and thought I might see if that will help. Its not even really a big issue because its only happened a few times. Just yesterday I took off from a dead stop full throttle and it didnt miss a beat. Anybody have any ideas?

All stock? Any TC or trans work in the past? Does it free rev between certain gears or between all? Did you happen to notice if it only did this after driving the car for a while and maybe the fluid is too warm? You may learn a lot when changing the filter, take a look at the VB and see if ther is a mess built up on the electronics on the side of the VB, but if the filter helps it may have just been not flowing enough.

It seems like it does the "slipping" from the 2-3 shift from what I can tell. It hasn't happened enough for me to really pay too much attention.I believe it has some sort of shift kit in it from the previous owner because the 1-2 shift is very strong. I believe it has the stock converter as far as I know. Also I notice that the torque converter doesnt ever go into lockup. It does go into 4th, but no lockup. It seems to only do it once the car is all the way warmed up. Hasnt done it while its cold. I kind of have a suspicion that whoever did the possible shift kit did not know exactly what they were doing.

GM designed a "cushion" in the 4L60E for the 2-3 shift. This "cushion" is called an accumulator. When the transmission gets some wear in the 3-4 clutches, this "cushion" becomes more noticeable. Especially at higher RPMs. What you're experiencing is one of the first signs of 3-4 clutch failure, which is a very common issue with stock 4l60Es.

Alright, is there any way to slow down the process or is it basically just wait until it completely goes out?

There's not really anything you can do. Additives will only accelerate any problems. GM didn't do us any favors with the 3-4 set up in the 4L60E. Fortunately, we've found ways to correct all the issues. There are atleast 6 different things that feed into 3-4 clutch failure.

Okay. Well I guess I will just do the filter change and wait for the inevitable. lol. It would be way cheaper to just stay with the auto, but I would much rather have the t56.
