what paint brands do you like to use?
i figure i need to stay away from the summit brands, and stuff like that. eastwood stuff any good? sherwin williams?
any preferences on brands for black?
I'm not a painter but my brother does our paint and body work we've been using Nason with great results we usually buy the best clear. I plan on using the same paint when I repaint my camaro next year.

The best paint to use is one that's available to you locally. Check your local parts stores (Napa, Carquest) I've found the guys behind the counter at those chains are typically more educated on paint and will steer you in the right direction. To answer specifically, I've used ppg omni on several repairs with good results. If you are doing a panel repair and not blending I've found the ppg deltron lines color match almost perfectly.

I've used several brands over the years ppg is a decent paint , dupont is OK too even there Nason brand for a low end product is decent stuff
, Sherwin Williams is junk bar far the worst paint I've ever used , sikins is OK but it's a little finicky , house of kolor is OK but you better follow there product sheets or it will fall off my buddy had it happen haha , valspar is decent but I haven't had a lot of time using it they own house of kolor now .
The best paint I have ever used is BASF it's fucking perfect screw the rest it won't shrink soak or pinch up after it wheeled out it won't change it's look , it's a bit expensive though. ( Glasurit and R-M /Diamont).
You should buy the best products your money can buy the higher the quality the paint the longer it will last and stay nice . Now I've sprayed car's in duponts Nason brand and the average person shit them selves . But a real painter or a car guy with a good eye can tell the difference especially over time but if you are on a small budget Nason Is one of the better low end products I've used.
I haven't painted since 2010 when I got sick from the paint , so I haven't had much experience with the water born base coats but from what I here and have experienced it good stuff but you need lots of air flow in the booth to help it flash off.

I've used R-M and Glasurit and had great success with both.

is this stuff you just get locally or do you find better prices online?
i figured online would be more since shipping chemicals, but who knows.

All of the products are local to me at the automotive paint stores . You might try googling automotive paint stores in your area , some stores only sell a single brand

I forgot about standox that's not bad stuff either , we played with it for a while before being forced to use dupont premier .
