I have a 94 Camaro with t56 trans that we use for a drift car and at the last event we lost 2nd gear half way thru a corner when it was in gear and drifting . theres no grinds no noise no nothing and wasn't any noise when it stoped working still goes in the 2nd gear spot but nothing happens and all other gears are fine and help would be great

Probably won't get much help here......that's something you're going to need to tear down and see what happened.

Frank Cahall may have something to add, but in a T56, if you lose a gear, you're probably looking at a teardown like Fastbird said above.

Unfortunately, my knowledge ends with Automatics...LOL Sorry, I'm not much help here.

It's going to be a tear down job. There's no way to know till you get in there and see. It's obvious you broke something lol
When doing autox/drift stuff you need to beef up your 2nd gear. Since you spend so much time in that gear beating on your trans.

Wait, what?? Drift car? I'm gonna need to see some pics of this. What all is done to it? How does it do? Please tell!

This is what happened to my original trans that was in my car but I wasn't drifting I was shifting into second while turning a corner

I figured I was gona have to take it apart to see what happen was just checking if it has happen to anyone else, and for now not much has been done to it yet we modified the knuckles to get lots more steering angle and adjusted camber to get as much negative as we could and stripped the inside and put springs on it to get more low. the car does real good with those mods just needs some stiffer sway bars and another 100 whp and lots of tires lol

Curious if this was ever torn down?
I personally have sheared all the dogs (engagement teeth) off of second gear in a 97 t56. The shifter would lock into the second gear detent, but with no dog on the gear itself, the was no grinding, no noise, no nothing.
More than likely will need a new second gear (save the old one just in case you ever decide to go faceplated). Hopefully there's no consequential damage from any of the dogs getting kicked around in the trans and they all made it to the magnets

I've rebuilt these transmissions a couple times. I'm pretty familiar with the insides of them. Don't let a lot of stuff online scare you, they're relatively simple to work on.
Sounds to me like you stripped the teeth off your second gear. I doubt it's the shift keys in this scenario because that would make it either stick in 2nd or not go in. While you're in there though I would throw in the billet shift keys as the stock stamped ones ARE weak and known to break.
Throw a steel 3/4 shift fork in as well.. That was the failure point on mine with only 360whp..
Any further questions feel free to ask!

I agree, I think you stripped the gear. My old M29 T-56 did that while driving normally. You let out the clutch in second and nothing was there lol.
