I am pretty much a nooby when it comes to rear ends. I am really wanting to put 4.10's in my car but don't know what rear end to purchase them for. I have a 97 z28 m6. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

7.5 10 bolt rear end with a 3 series carrier. So you need to buy 4.10's for a 3 series carrier.

If u want a rear to live get a rear that came out with 2.73s and do the gears in that rear. The 2 series gear will live longer. Then keep the stock rear round to put back in once the geared rear lets go, cause it will

I'm pretty sure this rear has the 2.73's. if it ever lets go ill have to make a trip to the local pick n pull haha And I honestly have no idea what you are talking about with the 2 and 3 series carriers......

All 94-02 M6 cars left the factory with 3.42:1 rear axle. The 10-bolt is sometimes referenced as the 7.5/7.625" 10-bolt.
Gears 3.08 and numerically lower were fitted at the factory to a 2-series carrier.... it's the physical spacing of the flange the ring bolts to, relative to the centerline of the pinion. Gears 3.23 and above were fitted to a 3-series carrier. The gears you buy have to match your carrier. As noted above, if you are looking at a 4.10:1 set, you can buy them for the 3-series, or in a thicker version for the 2-series.

All this assumes it has the factory rear and it hasn't been swapped for a 12 bolt/9 inch/S60.

Yes this is the factory rear. I wasn't sure what gears are in it now, I kinda felt like they were really low but with the information you have given me I don't have any reason to think that. Thanks guys
