had a big cam, stock bottom end setup that i beat on for years, after many 6k launches i spun a rod bearing and so it sat.... slowly gathered parts, 355, stock, crank, rods and forged pistons, custom cam from futural... borg s475 turbo and a bunch of other crap.

bought a welder and started making up the hot parts, started with some dual cat edlebrock headers, hacked them up and ran the passenger side around where the factory y-pipe goes and out to the driver side. turbo is a dual entry so i'm keeping the both sides separate, should make it spool sooner.23484234852348723488

also did some interior work, wasnt a fan of the light grey so painted it all black.

thanks. yeah it seems like a pretty well rounded turbo, i wanted one that i could stick with if i up the CI as well.

got any pictures of your setup? love to see how you got that thing to fit lol. i ended up notching my frame rail and i have it straddling it.

Looks like a sweet build. What hood is that dent look like a normal ultra z hood. But I could be wrong. Either way I like it!!

It looks to be a harwood hood

blkchevyz
09-04-2013, 02:58 PM
yeah it was a harwood, i actually sold it and got a factory hood, it wasnt functional, and just was too fond of it after a few years. like to get a sunoco hood, but i'll stick with stock for now... more of a sleeper lol

Cool ill try to find it on their site. Would it have been possible to make it functional btw?

no i dont see how you could make it functional, the opening is back behind where the ws6 hoods and ultra z hood sits. i was able to though get an ls1 lid to fit under there with some trimming of the ls1 lower lid support... didnt gain much if any over slp cold air so it wasnt really worth it, just something different... different as in like 8 years ago lol

I have a thread around here somewhere.

So far the s475 is working great for me. My first turbo build though so what do I know? Lol

other items is its a 6 speed car, has a ford 9 inch with 4.30s... guessing those will be a little much for the turbo. got some 3.70s to throw in. going to do a 2bar map tune with it and run e85. still working on what fuel pump/pumps to run, and injectors.
heres what it sounded like before it died.

got the rest of the stuff for the oil feed and return, along with all my gaskets. so time to weld up the fitting to the oil pan, then finish assembling the motor.
now that its not a 100+ degrees out hope to get out there this weekend and get some crap done on it.

I like your thinking with this placement, but that's going to boil your radiator being that close and there looks like there's no room for the upper radiator hose on that side now either. My recommendation would be to turn it clockwise about 20-30° and slide it back to where the ABS BPMV used to sit. You'd have an easy bend to fit an intake/filter in front of the shock tower, and a very slight bend coming off the turbo for a downpipe down the frame rail.

*edit* Wait......I see you cut the core support. You doing the Griffin stand up radiator everyone uses? If so, then you should be good. BUT.....where are you going with the exhaust. Down the drivers or passenger side of the motor, or are you doing a Ryan and going out the bumper?

blkchevyz
09-13-2013, 08:55 AM
sticking with the stock radiator, but in that picture its resting on the turbo, i didnt have the mount made to pull it closer to the front. with it pulled close there is a good fist size gap.

the exhaust is going to go down, and out the passanger side, i'm hoping to get a 4 inch pipe through there, might be an oval pipe though.

blkchevyz
09-23-2013, 09:32 AM
got a little more work done on it, have the upper radiator support done, just need to smooth it out a little more with filler.
what i first did was cut the stock one in half, and was going to box that in... after attempting that it was eaiser to just cut it off and get some square tubing, and make my own. i also added a piece of flat stock to the front to make it match the way the factory had it. crappy picture, filler was still wet so its looks like its glowing lol.

23984
now i just need to finish the lower support, then fix all my crappy welds i did a long time ago.

blkchevyz
02-10-2014, 10:33 AM
not really havent worked on it in a few months... but its been single digits here alot lately.
i think the last few things i did was weld in my bung for the oil return, and just gathered a few more parts to finish up the engine and an intercooler.

last thing i really need to do to the engine bay is finish up the lower radiator support. once i get that i should be able to paint the engine bay, then start working on putting everything in for good.

blkchevyz
02-11-2014, 10:34 AM
well gathering some more parts, order lifters, and just ordering an afr and boost gauge.

think all i really need now is parts to finish the charge piping, injectors and figure out what i'm going to do for a fuel pump or pumps.

blkchevyz
04-22-2014, 09:17 AM
i'm taking off Thursday and plan on spending the whole day with the car...
sad i have to take a day off work to work on it...

now if i could just get a hookup on some adderall to keep me motivated lol

hope to get the engine bay ready for paint... need to finish the upper and lower radiator mounts, and clean up some welds.
also going to disassemble my heads, so i can clean them up, and make sure the surface is flat, then button up the engine.

well as always shit happens and didnt get much done. had to push it out of the garage. the Easter bunny must of used my garage as a pit stop... there was rabbit shit all over lol

anyway i got the heads cleaned up, didnt get to pull them apart though, the spring compressor i got couldnt handle the spring pressure. added some strength back to the lower support and did some more sanding on the upper, also welded my drain on the oil pan(hope it doesnt leak)
next step is to get the intercooler mounted and the cold side done.

well had a week off of work and of course didnt get as much done as i hoped. Did get the engine bay cleaned up, scuffed, then painted. that took way longer than i was expecting, but it turned out pretty good. looks good from about 5 feet. after that you can see some dust that got in it.
also got the engine assembled. well at least the heads, timing set, and oil pan. just need to do the rockers, then throw the intake on. after that i'm ready to put it in. also did some pressure testing of my hot parts and fixed some pin hole. hoping to take another week off soon and try and get it to the point i can at least start it.
still trying to make the ltx shoot out

yeah i know, every time i knock something off my list, a few more things add to it.
forgot i still need to rework my brake lines since i ditch the abs. plus fuel pump, probably going to have to relocate my battery, relocate some of the harness since my turbo sites close to where the fuses box is.

once i get some new valve covers and replace a few sensors and other items i should be able to drop it in.

blkchevyz
07-07-2014, 09:54 AM
yeah i should of cleaned the intake prior to installing it lol.
i was more worried about getting the crap out of the inside

blkchevyz
07-18-2014, 08:29 AM
well got the gas tank drained and fuel pump swapped out. very surprised the tank was spotless inside. even with 6+ year old gas. but man is the tank a pain to pull without dropping the rear end. not sure if my 9 inch makes that worse or not.
waiting on a few items from summit and after that i hope to at least get the engine back in next week and maybe fire it up.

dawdaw
07-18-2014, 08:53 AM
I cut my filler neck in half and made a quick disconnect for it. .. Can pull the tank in 5 minutes. .. but ya there a bitch to yank out.

What you getting from Summit a couple twin 88s? Or 94s?

what did you do about the tube inside the filler neck? i acutally cut mine and patched a foot of rubber fuel hose into it so its more flexable for installing and removing. but i am a little worried about if its going to overfill when i fill the tank.

no nothing fun from summit, just gaskets and a couple sensors.
i already have my turbo sitting patiently in the garage :)

dawdaw
07-18-2014, 01:00 PM
Had a small I.D. BRASS thing put inside of it and secured then a 18" piece of alcohol rated hose to attach filler neck to tank

make sense thanks.

dawdaw
07-18-2014, 01:23 PM
The hose is on the outside.. goes over the tank part and filler neck about 9" per side... then got 2 clamps on each side. .. The brass deal Is about 6" long and like I said is on the inside of the smaller pipe which isn't a big deal anyways. .

blkchevyz
07-18-2014, 02:59 PM
so is the brass part just pushed into the inside pipe connecting them?

dawdaw
07-18-2014, 09:07 PM
Yup.... It's not really needed anyways. .. guy that welded my sump on said it's just a vent for when you put fuel in it, but I don't know if he was talking out if his ass or not.. post some pics up!

as long as i can still pump gas i'm good, its well worth the ease of installing the gas tank.

hopefully in the next week or two. i still have alot of work to do on the car but would like to get it to a point to start it make sure everythings good.

then get the intercooler mounted, run the piping, finish the exhaust, run the hot wire kit for the fuel pump, brakes, battery, put the interior back together....
lol i think my idea of making the shootout with it just crumbled.

haven't touched it since i figured out i need to move the turbo to a lower position.... still pissed :shiner:

did just get my new flange and tubing so might give it a go this weekend if its not 100 degree out.

blkchevyz
09-24-2014, 09:08 AM
i should of just bought a supercharger lol

moving the turbo is a big old pain in the ass... the location i want to put it i dont really have a good way to support it, its a borg turbo so its a heavy bastard. then i'm also running into the problem with keeping the oil drain path clear of tubing..

just venting.

dawdaw
09-24-2014, 09:22 AM
Put it in the front bumper and let her suck some fresh air out of the front

blkchevyz
09-24-2014, 09:47 AM
then my cheap ass would have to buy a scavenging pump for the oil return... plus that more piping to have to figure out lol.

the location im moving it to space isnt really the issue. though if i turned the turbo around and had the exhaust exit out the drivers side it would make it easier... but then i'd be forced to dump it out the front bumper...

dawdaw
09-24-2014, 10:41 AM
Do it.

Cheaper, less restriction and less weight.

blkchevyz
09-24-2014, 11:10 AM
i was going to use that as a last resort, kind of going for the sleeper look... you know cam only car lol

blkchevyz
06-01-2015, 02:00 PM
well havent updated this in a while. after take a break i'm going at it again. ended up getting a radiator, going to run some pusher fans and mount the turbo in front of the balancer. got the piping pretty much done just need to do the finish welding and figure out how i'm going to support the turbo, and where to put the wastegate in it.
damn thing has been sitting way to long, so i'm trying to force my self to work on it at least a few hours a week... just have to get the wife and kids to leave me alone lol

making a few changes to the plans, e85 isnt as available around me as it use to be, so going to stick with 93, and meth/water. that should simplify my fuel system.
maybe i'll buy some new tools to play with, that always gets me out there lol
