First things first. If anyone is/knows any one in Houston (north side preferably) that has the necessary cable/ equipment to tune an OBD1 LT1 PCM, I really need your help. I have the tune already to go, just can't get it on my new PCM.

Now for the "question"

I have a 96 LT1, with an OBD1 PCM. Last night I swapped rear ends (M6 kills 10 bolts) and went to tune it at about 1:00AM. I have a brand new cable which I've used about 5 times. Its been giving me some small problems with connecting to do data logs, but once it connects its great. Well last night I took my car for a cruse and after about 15 of driving it finally synced with my PCM. So I pulled over to tune it via tunercat. About 3/4 of the way through I got a "cable failure" error. Bam. Done. Goodnight. Dead PCM.

This morning I drove to LKQ and pulled another PCM, took it home and tried to flash it. This time it "established connection" right away and started flashing. Crapped out again, but only after about 1/8 the way through. Two dead PCMs.

Now I have PCM #3. I can't get it to read the tune off of it (just to know if it will communicate properly), so I didn't dare try to flash #3. I am having connectivity problems with three laptop. One XP, one Win7, and one Win8. All can't connect in data master(or w/e its called).

I haven't changed any settings for my Com port, The laptop used for tuning is running XP and is mounted in my car, therefore I know the settings haven't been changed. Everything is at the default, I also tried changing it to a baud rate of 54000, with no luck of communication.

Does this sound like a bad cable? I also checked all my fuzes, all good. I'm really desperate, I'm willing to pay almost any price, as well as throw in a OBD2 cable.

First make sure both the car and the lap top have steady and full power.

Any surges...can fry during a flash.

2nd ...are u sure ur laptop has no corruption?

Both the laptop and the car are on the charger. I still can't get any reading from it, Last night I kept getting "Invalid response from PCM", now I keep getting "Cable Failure"

I think its my PCM

Well grab another laptop first.. and check.

WHen I was having my car tuned ... we had all kinds of communication issues...we fried the cars computer more than I can remember.... we had dyno sessions cancelled cause it wouldnt communicate... borrowed and bought cables... then finally, I cleaned out my lap top, it had NOTHING but an operating system.. no antivirus.. no NOTHING ....... took it off line, took it to the tuning shop... he installed the LT1 edit on it... disabled the internet service via wifi....

GOLDEN!!!!! IT WAS A SUCCESS...With the original cable.. and flashed the computer DOZENS of times with no issues.

Just a thought.

Popo,
I should inform you that I am an IT. I bought this netbook specifically for tuning my car. It only has XP sp3, Tunercats, and a datalogging program on it.

No AV, not connected to wifi, nothing. I also tried two other laptops, one Dell D630 ATG, and an HP, same result with all three. I'm going to call the place where I bought the cable in the AM and try to get another one sent.

Sounds like the cable is definitely bad to me. Shouldn't have issues like that.

I might take you up on this, assuming http://www.aldlcable.com (http://www.aldlcable.com/) wants to be a prick and have me send mine in first before they send in theirs

Found a short... Something like a cat got under my car and pulled a bunch of wires down on to me headers... Fired the car up, ad guess what happened... Yeah... So I've got to rewire some stuff... Not thrilled... F in cats...

No prob man... you know where to find me...

Also...

A power fluctuation...although rare, could be as simple as hitting the brake peddle while the flash is occurring.

I generally stay far away from my vehicle when I'm programming my ECU
