I found a guy on a local forum who has a good transmission out of a 99-2000 s10 with the 4.3.

It has a detatchable bellhousing and mine in my car is non-detatchable.
Also, all of the transmissions around here that ive found have a detatchable bellhousing so I really hope i can make it work.

Can I make this work. I know a tranny out of an s10 will work, and i may need to change tailshafts, but can i make this one work. The guys only asking 300 for it and i know that it is good so it sure would be nice...

Is it an auto or manual? The only prob I would see is will it handle the torque of the V8?

Its an auto, and from what i understand s10 4l60e's and the fbody's have the same parts inside.
I read somewhere while google searching that i should be able to use it but i may have to modify my flexplate a little.

I am only asking this because I am not 100% sure, but why would the bellhousings need to be switched ? Aren't the LT1 and a 4.3 the same on the back side where the trans mounts to ? I was always under the impression the the 4.3 was nothing more than a SBC with 2 cylinders missing.

oops my mistake,we just did a 2.2 4cyl tranny into a 5.3 truck swapped bellhousing....
i don't know what i was thinkin but you will need to do a few mods for it to work the spacing for the converter is different. the tranny will bolt up but not the converter.. it will be the opposite of installing a t400 into an Ls1 car.

Ok cool. Thanks for clearing that up. Not trying to hijack the thread but I was thinking about using the 4L60E that is already in my S10 instead of using a 4L60E from a F or B body. I guess I won't be doing that now.
Thanks again !

Removeable bellhousing? Guess I've never seen that. My 95 4L60E case is all 1 piece. So what is the difference between the LT1 tranny's and the LS1?

Thanks guys. I just found out the guy is further away than i thought. About 4 hours both ways, but i may still get it. But at least i have more options now.

Depends on which style you have. There are two different style late model "bolt on bell housing" 4l60e. One has the regular style input shaft and one has the 30mm input shaft.

The regular style input shaft is the same as the lt1 style. If the shafts match than you can interchange them.

If you have the 30mm style transmission then you have to change multiple things internally and externally to make it work behind an lt1. The stator support is longer, the input shaft is bigger and longer, the bell housing is a different bolt pattern and extends farther, the torque converters are different, as are the flywheels, and the cooler lines.

If you have the flywheel and TC for the 30mm style transmission than you can make it all work with some adapters.

Wow, sounds like you really know what you are talking about.:hail: Thanks for the info, so if it came out of a 4.3 truck then it should just bolt right in shouldnt it, since the 4.3 is basically a 350 with two less cylinders???

Ok, update. I got a transmission out of a 97 s10 blazer with the 4.3 liter v6. Got it home and on further inspection it is a lot different than my fbody trans. Besides the bellhousing being detatchable, the fluid lines come off the side different, and the tailshafts are different. I guess i got the 30mm version.

I can take it back to the salvage yard and lose 100 bucks, or I may try to get someone to put its internal into my old tranny depending on cost.
