I don't know if I have this in the right section. But I wanted to know opinions on how to fix this and or how much it will cost. Last night it was snowing and some not so bright individual slid and hit my car while I was in my dorm. I went outside to brush the snow off of my car and saw tracks really close to my car and lifted the cover up to check n saw this. It was under my cover so it didn't leave any paint to find out who did it. But I got a police report for a hit and run so hopefully my insurance will be helpful. Sorry about the weird angles. I didn't know how to get good pics of it so I took a ton of pictures. I appreciate any help and advice
Greg

Begin by going and getting an estimate for repair.

Then compare that est to ur ded. if ur ded is not more than the repair...and its worth notifying ur ins co.... call them and make an appointment for an adjuster to check it out by opening a claim.

if the paint had not cracked id say pop it back out... but body and paint damage require body work...

and DO NOT get behimd it with a hammer and start banging it out....PLEASE.

It's been hit there before. But it's not that bad. A quality shop can fix you right up. Just pay attention to the back side after its repaired and make sure it gets some attention on the inside of the panel to.

As they said. check the cost at a shop. and see if its worth reporting. I got hit behind my passenger door years ago in my old TA. And i let insurance pick the shop. And i paid for it. they did a bondo job basically. So find a quality shop. and they can fix that easy.

If you do go insurance no matter what they tell you it's your choice where to take the car for repairs. Also most shops warranty their work for as long as you own the vehicle. So don't let them say well if you don't go here we can't give you a warranty cause in the end the shop is the one responsible for the work they perform.

I would say your going to be around 4-700 on the repair.

thanks i appreciate the help and the quick responces! im young and never had anything dumb like this happen to me before. and being at school 10 hours from home just makes it that much more of a pain.
im gona talk to my teachers at school and find a good body shop that does good work and get a price from them. my dad is going to check with the insurance lady and get her opinion on what to do. i just know this panel is hard to fix since it not removeable and has that curve.
is there any temporary fixs i can do to prevent it from rusting? like should i spray it with some clear coat or primer or something?
also im guessing they are going to have to use a stud welder and pull the dent out (correct me if im wrong, im just guessing) but what else would they have to do? i want to have some knowlege so the body shop doesnt rip me off by putting bondo on and painting it.

really you think only 400-700 with it being painted again?
i have no idea what the labor rate is for body work. i know is usually around 80-100ish a hour for mechanics, so i thought it mit be more

Im gonna guess a lil more expensive at...1k +/-

Leave it alone... U dont want to do anytging to it to make them question the damage.

If there's no damage to the bumper our labor rates are $42.00hr that can vary by location. 4-6 hrs to repair the dent probably another 4-6 for paint. Then whatever materials will be. Didn't look like the bumper was damaged in the pics. Just get a few places to look at it. Maybe even look at some cars that are ready for customer pick up.

As bad as the dent looks that's a easy repair in the area it's at.

We were $70/hr 14 years ago!

Sorry about the late response. Why do you say is full of body filler already ? Is that why the paint cracked like that?
Will that make it harder to fix ?
I got a recommendation from my teacher. He said he does good work but has a small shop. So I'll call him on Friday and find out if I can get a quote.
And dang that sucks that labor rate is on $42 a hour. That's Gota kill your paycheck.
If I don't claim insurance should I do anything to cover it before I can get it fixed ? Its crappy weather in Ohio and I have eagle F1 tires so driving and snow dont get along haha
Thanks for the help !

Maybe not "full" of body filler but it definitely looks like its been fixed before by the gas door. Not a big deal though...

Its not a hard spot to fix so if your teacher says he can do it Im sure he can. If your going to fix it soon dont worry about covering it with anything.

Keep us posted!

OK sweet. Im glade its not too hard. It seems like it would be a pain but I really haven't done body work either so I have no real room to talk.
I talked to the insurance company and they said I can cancel a claim at anytime if i don't want to pay the deductible(if its cheaper to fix myself). So I decided to file a claim and im get them to estimate it next week. so I will find out what they say then. I was surprised that they actually were helpful and made it simple. Thank god!
I'll keep updating when I find things out. I can't wait for it to be fixed. It makes me want to pull my hair out wen I see it

I will write what i have heard many people do. Some of it may be considered insurance fraud...so i cant suggest that u do it...

But those people would go to high dollar body shops and get three estimates...then they would let an adjuster do an estimate on the car. Say the damage is 500-1000. the high end body shops will help to push the adjuster towards the higjer end... Then when he cuts the owner of the vehicle a check for say 700 (figuring the deduct would be 240 for example)..the owner who has the right to go anywhere would go to a mom and pop shop that does great work and pay them the money to do the work with no deduct needed....

I cant promote anything like that...but i hear it happens alot.

And dont treat the damage...if the person fixing knows what they are doing they will see the previous repair work and will strip down to bare metal.

Sorry for the late response. I wanted to update what is going on with my car. I got it estimated by the insurance company. (Surprisingly it wasn't that bad to deal with the insurance company. The agent was actually very helpful)
They estimated it around $950. So after the $500 deductible I ended up with around $450.
I then took it to the guy I was recommended to and he quoted me $575 fixing it all and fixing the dent in my rocker panel (it was there when I bought the car, it looked like someone slid off the road n put a little dent in it. it wasn't very noticeable but I thought while he has paint might as well fix that and paint them both)
He called me today saying it is ready to be picked up. So I will post up some pics after I pick it up tomorrow.
I appreciate all the advice and words of wisdom !

I had someone hit my firebird on the nose. It cracked the fender and broke the nose where it goes into the fender..the car already needed a paint job..

Long story short..it was totaled...they paid me the 7,500 I showed receipts for parts...and sold it back to me for 300..
But here's where it gets interesting...

The lady at gmac told me the car didn't need to be totaled...so then I gave them back the check..then they issued a check for 2500...

THEN THEY TOTALLED THE CAR!! I got in touch with Austin, and had a lawyer call them..well..then I got the rest of the first check, the car is listed as totaled...over a cracked fender and messed up nose clip...

So beware!!! Insurance companies are a pita.. I used gmac because I wanted genuine GM parts..I don't use them anymore because they screw you and run and hide...
