View Full Version : Using plasti dip on my front bumper. Good quick fix???

My Formula's front bumper/fascia has spider cracks in the paint.

BTW, my formula is arctic white.

If I sprayed it with some plasti dip would that be a good quick fix, just for now. Or should I use a different paint?

I am going to have it painted professionally when I get the money.

Also, should I wet sand it before I spray it with the plasti dip, or just clean it?

Thanks!

Plasti dip is going to be dull comoared to your hood and fenders. You can just wipe it down with some soapy water and spay it. Learning my lessons as I get older. Don't waste money on stuff like this and put that 50 bucks toward a proper repair

If they make the dupli color perfect match rattle can get some of that and some clear. Get some 800 wet paper and prep the old bumper. Get some prepsol to wash it down before and after sanding. Spray bomb the bumper and let it dry good. Then get some 1500 and 2000 wet paper and sand it. Use a good buffer with a wool pad and buff out the sanding marks. Wax and stand back and be happy. I did my spoiler and stripes that way as well as some spider cracks on my bumper. Cost was about 70 bucks in materials. Can post pics of spoiler later

I can vouch for this. His spoiler came out incredible for a spray bomb job.

Agree with the above. My drivers side door was a spray bomb job although I didn't spend anywhere near $70. You could also single stage it yourself.

800 isn't gonna take away spider webbing lol, I used 80 and still had trouble.

With a d/ a and time it will smooth out if it is just webbed in the clear. If it is in the base or urethane then yeah, more aggressive paper to start.

My bumper cover was spidered from an accident so it was deep. I know its not "textbook" but I just hit it with 180 and wiped it with a flexable filler. Its been painted 6 months and hasnt come back yet.

I was going to sand try to fix the spider cracks and rip at blinker sides in my camaro and body guy
told me just to by a new bumper. It only cost me around $50-60 for NEW . It saved me plenty of time and money
and from the spider cracks that are gonna come through later where you didnt fill.

New aftermarket for $50?? I hope it fits good fo you.. I had one for a friends car and we had to massage it so much it would have been easier to fix his busted up OEM one.

Mine was a 1/2 an inch between bumper and hood. I think mine looked worse.
Just gotta " Make it happen" like my dad would tell me back then.

I used to love DRIVING lights as well (fogs are yellow). But as time has moved on... I realized its just one more drain on my electrical system that can and should be going towards spark.
