How many miles have you guys put on your new clutches before you gave it alittle hell. I'm trying to shoot for the adverage 500+ mile recammended time, but have any of you cheated.

I think everyone cheats but it also kills the life of it. Thats why alot of guys are like
"it was great the first 2000 miles then just blew up"
But realisticly how could you wait out 500 miles especially if you have a drag car or something. Are you just supposed to make 2000 slow passes b4 you make 1 WOT run?
Truth is Im not sure what to tell you! LOL! Except I know what I would do.

it's like hookin up with a fine lady,it's only a matter of time before you wanna hit it!
ok,the main thing with a new clutch is to heat cycle it. a nice cruise at various speeds.

I ran mine about 250 miles before taking it to the track. No slicks just street tires this year. I was told by folks at McLeod that the 500 miles is based more on highway miles where you are not shifting much. They told me that more stop and go city driving would break it in much faster. So that is what I did. Cruised town and hit as many stop lights as I could.

Thats great to know, i have a Mcleod disc, i've been doing alot of stop & go, i feel its almost seated, it was spongy (very soft) the 1st. 50+ city miles, now i'm at 100 miles of city driving, its grabbing really good, i look at it this way, just say we put 1000 easy miles on our clutches, then start racing the car (whether it be street or strip), why would we exspect the clutch to last 30-40000 miles, i wouldn't lol, sure, they will go 100K+ with easy miles, mine lasted 159K, but 100K of that was highway miles, after i started hammering on it, didn't last long at all, not even 800 miles, so i'll put 250 or so miles before i open it up some, it just feels so much better now on the highway in 6th. gear, just 1/4 throttle & its up too 80+ in no time from a 65 MPH cruise, it never felt this strong before up top, thanks for the imput guys.

I've ALWAYS waited 500 miles before romping on a new clutch. Haven't had a premature failure yet either.
First 100 miles... granny style. 200-300... a little harder, still not WOT or slamming gears... 300-400... go ahead a get a couple quick shifts and more acceleration here and there... but I've always heard to drive it like you stole it :)

I did about 1k of easily driven miles. But then again I like to take care of my car. I've heard of people going out and racing the car that weekend, but then again the people I know that've done that don't care for there car as much as I do.
Just take it easy for a bit, 500 miles is fine.
