Ok guys, I’m replacing the clutch on my 95 Z28 LT1.
After way to much internet research I think I’ve settled on either the
SPEC stage 3+ with a SPEC flywheel or a Mcleod street twin for LT1 with adj. m/c..
I really don’t want to install a flywheel/clutch assembly that is heavier than stock.
In order to get the proper setup I have a few unanswered questions.
What is the weight of a stock GM LT1 flywheel?
At this link it appears to 20 or 20.5 lbs.. Seems too light?

Weight of a replacement stock clutch appears to be 25 lbs. shipping weight on most websites. Agree to this weight?
If the stock clutch and flywheel assembly weigh 45 lbs. this is the same as a Mcleod LT1 street twin w/aluminum flywheel. (Mcleod weight per Billy at Mcleod).
A steel flywheel would obviously weigh more.
How much does a SPEC billet steel flywheel for LT1 weigh?
Sorry for the book, but I’ve not able to find these answers.

I have an f1 racing chromolly neutral balanced flywheel brand freakin new I'll sell you for $200, I bought it bc I thought my 383 was internally balanced but after calling the machine shop the kit they ordered was externally balanced so this thing does me no good, I spent a little over $300 on this thing and didn't even mount it just took it out to look at it

I could have weighied my stuff for you a few weeks ago but it's all back together now. I can tell you I have a Spec 3+ and a stock flywheel, it fells like a stock clutch. Drives great with no chatter, the McLeod is going to be a heavy clutch and they don"t reccomend it for racing with slicks.

I have never heard not to run the twin disk with slicks before.
That clutch is meant for high power levels and takes a lot of abuse. The only reason not to run it with slicks is if you have a weak driveline behind it such as stock trans/ls1 driveshaft/10bolt.

Yea that's what I thought. When I was researching clutches I called McLeod and the tech told me they rate the power level for street cars with street tires not slicks. When I told him I had a track car with slicks he said the street twin was not designd to take the abuse from hard launches. I even called back a day later hoping to get a different tech support guy because I believed the fast drag cars were using this clutch, but I got he same guy. He again explained the street twin was not designed to be used in drag racing but for use in high hp stret cars. I learned from contacting people here and on ls1tech the ones going fast on street twins are using different disc's and some have cinverted to use the LS stule street twin. It orignially comes with organic disc's which can't handle the abuse of drag racing. I didn't want to take a $1200 gamble!

They're rated to 1200hp I don't understand how they can't take track abuse

I know, I don't either but with the guy from McLeod tellin me it wasn't reccomended I wasn't gonna risk it. When I brought that up he replied they were referring to a 1200hp street car.?? It would be nice if we could get McLeod as a sponser here to clear it up! I don't see the point in saying the clutch is good for XXX HP if they're saying it has to be on street tires! OP sorry to get off topic.
