View Full Version : After almost two years my Camaro will run again.....soon

Long story short, I got a ticket, couldn't afford insurance, got another car, broke, got another car, insurance went down, fix Camaro.

So, I ordered some parts to get it going. So far it need a water pump, oil pan gasket, trans pan gasket, and front crank seal. Might just do the rear main while I'm at it. Then throw a new set of fans in and hope they work and don't blow the fuse constantly. I'll take some pics when I get home.

Aw, that will be back on the road in no time. Those are all easy fixes (save the rear main which is just time consuming).

I know, I know pic fail. Here's just a couple before I tear into it. About to go out right now and get to it. I'll take some more pics while I'm out there.

Its not too bad. I got most of it taken apart today. Waiting on the rest of the parts and gaskets. The clear is peeling on the roof and the front bumper is pretty sorry looking but the rest should buff out pretty nice.

Made progress today, looking to have it done and ready to fire back up next week. Found wire repairs that need to be made, headers burnt some of them pretty good.

Ya, it's dirty as hell in there. I used to keep it in the garage but to finish my Skylark I had to move outside for a while and the high winds where I live just kick up dirt like crazy. It mostly just blows off. I'll be cleaning it all up the best I can.

Also, I found a hell of a deal on some 285/40/18 for the rear wagon wheels so I don't have roll on spares when I fire it up. $225 shipped for goodyear eagle f1 supercars. I just need to figure out which tires for the front I need that will look OK. I was thinking a 255/45/17.

I would love to throw some 275's up front but I have wagon wheels so they are only 8.5 wide.

If Im not mistaken, my 17" DD C5s are only 8.5 or 9" wide with the 275s.....

The rears are 11.5" wide for the 315s...

Badbird_96

Agree with Popo put 275/45/17s on them.

NoMoneyZ

I'll see. I know the front fronts are 8.5 and I searched on ls1tech and the general was not to go 275 on less than 9 wide. The rears are 9.5 so I have a little better.

Got a little head start after work. Car is jacked up and drained. Just need to unbolt afew things. Having a hell of time trying to remove the crank snout so iI can get the timing cover off.

Badbird_96

Just my opinion on the tire thing I ran that size on a 9.5 with no problem and don't see where a half inch would make a big difference. Its not like your trying to run a 315 on it or something lol. And glad to hear you got started on it. I would help but have no idea on the crank snout thing. Never tore into my motor yet

NoMoneyZ

Ya I haven't decided yet. The rears are going to be 285/40/18 nittos. A friend has a set in good shape. I got the crank snout off finally. Had to rent a better puller and it came right out. Oil pan came out with a little fight. Busted the oil level sensor so I had to grab another.II'm going to finish tomorrow. Look for more pics Nd a video.

Well, It's finally mostly together. Enough so that I could start it for a sec. Checked for leaks and its bone dry all the way around the oil pan and timing cover. I also wanted to make sure I had the opti on correctly, so I didn't put the water pump on yet. Gotta get a smog for it and pay the reg and I'll be good to go. Here's a short clip of it starting.

Well, I got the cooling system hooked all back up and took her for a drive. Still destroys tires as good as ever and has a useless first gear and into second is always fun. Fighting a misfire though. It's been there since I parked it. Going to grab some new wires and see if that fixes it. Also need some header wrap.

No light on, but I'm going to hook up a scanner and check it. I also have my laptop and cable so I guess I can scan it that way too.

Paid the reg, got the tags, got the header wrap, and the new wires. Should be good to go tonight. Hopefully it solves the misfire.

Most of you who have been following know that the car is back together and running great. I have been waiting to get some pictures after I got tires for my wheels. I finally did a little bit ago and now the wheels are on. Took a lot of hammering to the fender well but I'm satisfied. I am putting up pics in the next post.

It's a glastek 3" cowl hood. It's a bolt on hood. I love the way it looks but it fits like crap. I bought it from someone used for 200. Cost 300 to paint it.

Thanks everyone. I wish the quality could be better but my camera hasn't arrived yet so these were taken with my 5mp phone.

Edit...... just realized that you can't click the pics to get the bigger pic from photobucket. I hate how they always change the damn links. I'm going to fix that so you all can see the full size ones.

I was thinking about those but I wanted to drive the car asap so I just hammered away. It wasn't too bad really, after I adjusted the panhard bar I realized I didn't need to hammer as much.
Thanks for the compliment though man. I always thought I could pull off these wheels on the car and now I know for sure. I wish I could bring the front down some without making the ypipe scrape everywhere.

Right now it's at stock height. I was planning on doing the heater hose mod on the rear and back and forth with the front because the y pipe fits like crap so hangs really funny.

It is too skinny for the car and has huge gaps on the sides. The front sits high and it has to be forced shut. I already modified the hinges a bunch, but still need to hack at them some more so it doesn't have to be forced closed.

Thanks, I was surprised also. They are stock housings with an ebay HID kit. I think I went with 8k bulbs. They are a little too much on the blue side for my liking but I don't want to spend more money changing them right now. They are bright as hell. I never get flashed either so it works.

It very well could have been. But since I bought it used I can't do anything about it. It's all good though. I've seen a couple people do that with the stock hood. If you can get it to blend well without seams it will look good. I'm planning on the same thing with my Skylark hood since nobody makes a Skylark cowl hood.
