Ok, I finally got the car running on all 8, & fixed the exhaust leak. I actually drove it around the block on monday, which was awsome. But the clutch is slipping, not too bad that I can't drive it around the block, but bad enough that I can't get into it at all without slipping. Sooooo, I put it back on stands & proceeded to remove the trans for clutch inspection. However, the bell housing is hitting the body & wont come out far enough to cleat the mainshaft to drop it down. I have made sure that the clutch fork is not in the TO bearing several times. We didnt have this much problem installing the trans, so what gives... Here is a pic of where it is hiting. I have tried jacking the front of the engine up to give me a bit more clearance in the rear, but that didn't work either.

You removed the trans from the bellhousing first correct? You may need lift the front of the motor slightly to clear it

I have not removed the trans from the bell housing yet. That was actually my next step tonight if it doesn't rain. It went in with the bell mounted, so i figured it would come out with it mounted. I tried jacking the front up, it gave me a bit more clearance but not enough to get it out. Thanks for the help.

The easiest way is to remove the trans From the bell housing it should slide right out and when you re install it bell housing first then trans you will be happy that way.

X2, that's how my trans came out when I did my clutch.

Take the bellhousing off first. You probably got the trans in the other way because without the tranny in it's proper position the engine tilts backwards a bit, which is probably why you could get them both on at the same time.

Agreed with above especially for me with an SFI bell housing, you have to remove the trans first then the housing.

Yeah my friend, you have to pull the crossmember from under the trans then remove the bolts that mount the trans to the bellhousing and pull the tranny out first then get that bellhousing unbolted.

I got the trans out 2 nights ago. It damn near fell out once the bell was un-bolted. SWEET!!! I will put some pics up when I get to the house later. I am in need of a flywheel though & a TO bearing though. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Ok, a bit of an update. Got a used flywheel from someone on here that had to be resurfaced. Got that done & had the TO ordered. Decided to clean up the bell & trans before I put them back in. Here's where I'm at now. Trans is going back in tomorrow.

You must remove the case from the bellhousing to uninstall and visa versa to install
