Ok I wasnt planning on it but it looks like i might be selling a couple of my sleds(snowmobiles) tomorrow, and I want to buy a complete new rear end to handle my power plus any future upgrade! Im going with 4.10s/4.11s so thats not what I want to know. 9in? S60? How much $$$$???????
Street/strip car dont want gear noise!!
Let me Hear your thoughts?
BTW eventually this car will be FAST! Should run 11 spring maybe 10s by fall and faster when I can afford it

9" will be cheaper in the long run, but to get a quiet rear buy the housing axle package, then buy a bare 3rd member and assemble with your own choice of gears... S60 needs a new driveshaft. if you use a strange 9" 3rd member, in a moser housing you can run the stock driveshaft.
most manufacturers set up gears "within the outer limits" and leave slop everywhere...my 9" is LOUD! and FYI the Lockers SUCK!

S60. I got the 4.10s, 35-spline axles, TruTrac Locker and aluminum cover. Direct bolt-in other than requiring a shorter driveshaft but then again I wouldn't recommend running a stock DS with an aftermarket rear if you plan on hitting it hard. I got a 3" chromoly drive shaft from Strange when I ordered the rear. I believe it has less power loss than the 9" and while it weighs ~70 lbs. more than the 10-bolt your talking less than 1/10 sec and you will probably make that up plus some with the improved 60 ft.

Go with a 9" 35 spline, you may want to consider getting the moser houseing/axle package, then get a complete 3rd. member built to your satisfaction, some have had problems with the complete 9" rears, you'll be out around 1000.00 for the houseing/axle package, but it comes with bearings, a bad azz 3rd. member shouldn't be anymore then a 1000.00 bucks, 1200.00 for an aluminum case, a complete rear is around 2300.00. I know you said your going with 4.11s, but after hearing alot of people saying go with a 4.30 gear instead, i wish i had listened :(, the 4.11s are fine, but if your planning on building that engine up, you'll most likely be shifting at 6500+ rpms, GO with a 4.30 gear, you'll be glad you did, i'm running a 26.4" DR, & i trap at 57-5800 with just bolt-ons, i only shift at 5900, when i went from the 3.42s to the 4.11s, i was running a 24.4" tire, i noticed the change, but once i installed the taller tire, it hurt it, almost felt like i went back to 3.42s, i'm sure you'll be running at least a 26"+ tire down the road, i'm fine with my gear (for now), but if i decided to install a cam/heads, i would be much happier with 4.30 gears, so those guys were right when they said skip the 4.11s & get 4.30s.

S60 here, 35 spline, spooled, big wheel studs, upgraded axles, upgraded aluminum cover, cost me under 2 grand, and it weighed right around 185lbs. Add another 30-40lbs for a posi. A stock 10-bolt weighs about 160-165.
x2 on getting a new driveshaft. I got a 3" ds made by Denny's (they are right around the corner from me) for 300 bucks. It is nitrous ready, and can handle some serious power.
Another thing to think about when ordering your rear end is to get it shortened a little bit. Go about 2" inboard on each side. Not only will it weigh a bit less, but it will open up your wheel choices IMMENSELY!! You won't have to run wheels with stupid amounts of backspacing.

If you want to go budget, try to snag a used 12 bolt. I bought mine a couple years ago (Strange, loaded) for $1300 with under 1500 miles on it.
If you're purchasing brand new, go with the S60. It's more of a direct bolt in than the 9", will take more abuse, and has less parasitic loss due to pinion location.

Around 50 mph it's noticable but with exhaust too it doesn't really matter.
