View Full Version : Getting back to my LT1 for the first time in a long while, need monitoring options

So I'm finally going to get myself back into LT1 mode after working on my Cummins and just in general taking a break from it, basically driving it on weekends or when my truck was down. Going to slap on an exhaust, get it inspected and drive it more. Currently, it is dyno tuned from a few years ago. So I'm not really looking to buy a "tuner" program, nor do I have a laptop to take out there and hook up anyways. What I'm looking for is mainly some kind of monitoring device I can mount in the car and view any kind of parameters or gauges that I would like to at anytime while driving. Partially for peace of mind, but also I've been getting an occasional "bog" for a few seconds after I start up the car while it's still hot from a drive. I'd like to see what's going on when this happens. Years ago I remember seeing a Hyperpac or something that sounded like it might be what I'm looking for, but I've been out of it for so long that I don't know if it's actually any good, or what other better or newer options may be out there now. So if anyone can lead me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it very much.
Thanks

Being a 95 OBD1 (the port is 1.5, the wiring is 1), I'm not sure what, if anything, is really available for you. I've never found any scanners available for OBD1, only OBD2. Your best bet, and probably the cheapest, is really going to be just getting an ALDL cable ($60) and using TunerPro RT (which is free) to data log.
Edit: If you really want to get something that doesn't require a laptop, you're going to spend 4 times as much: http://www.thunderracing.com/shop-by/vehicle/1993-1997-LT1-F-Body/Computer/Diagnostic-Tools/ or Aeroforce's analog gauge which would require more work to wire: http://www.aeroforcetech.com/products_analogic.html

Hm, sounds to me like I may be better off buying a cheap, used laptop for tuning purposes only. Won't be much I should need to tune, but if I would have to, at least I would have the option. Maybe I will go all out and find a way to mount the laptop, or tap into a touch screen head unit of some sort. But I would really like to get some monitoring going on pretty soon after I get my exhaust bolted up. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you want to go on the cheap, all you need is the ALDL cable, TunerPro RT (free) and WinFlash ($20 after trial period ends).
