Just wanted to share the progress my brother has made with his 1994 Z28. The car is an A4 and came with 2.73 gears. I owned the car before him and the only mod at the time was the ZR1 replica wheels.

In stock form the car made 230 rwhp and 273 rwtq (almost exactly the same as my previous A4 LT1). The car ran 14.3 @ 98 mph.

Next up we put a K&N CAI, 1LE elbow, airfoil, Magnaflow catback, 3.42 gears, alunimum driveshaft, electric waterpump, underdrive pulley, and Nitto drag radials.

The car ran pretty consistent 13.6-13.7 @ 100 mph.

We put the car on the dyno, but it was breaking up. On the street we couldn't tell except for an occasional stumble. The car put down 250 rwhp and 273 rwtq, but clearly wasn't running right.

We replaced the plugs and wires and it seemed to run better so we put it back on the dyno and it had picked up to 272 rwhp and 303 rwtq.

Here's the graph before and after the new plugs and wires:

Next up, we installed 1.6 Scorpion roller rockers and upgraded the valvesprings. We didn't dyno it after that change alone, but he ran 13.53 @ 102 mph the one day he got it up to the track.

Just last week he installed a set of Pace Setter ceramic coated shorty headers and y-pipe, with cat-delete. Yes, we realize that we are giving up some power by not going with long tube headers, but the car has to pass emission and he had to stay within his budget, so custom long tubes, with dual cat y-pipes, etc were out for this round. Down the road he may upgrade when he has more $$ to play with. We got it on the dyno this morning and the rockers and headers together were worth 20 rwhp and 18 rwtq. Pretty good gain considering my bolt-on 2002 Z28 only picked up 12 rwhp when I added long tube headers and a tune.

He's hopping to run 13.2-13.3 @ 104ish as it sits, which I think is a reasonable goal.

Not the fastest LT1 out there, but it's coming along nicely.

Next he plans on getting it tuned (a/f is a bit iffy in the mid range) and maybe trying a bigger throttle body. Also in the works are a stall converter, cam, and nitrous kit.

He went with shorties because he needs to pass emissions and stay within his budget. When we do the cam, I'm sure people are going to yell at us for not putting the right cam in it and leaving power on the table, but the car has to pass emissions, unfortunately.

Great write up.... And a damn good looking car!

Thanks!

It's actually kind of funny, he found the car back in early 2008 when he started looking, but he couldn't afford it. He went on vacation and I went to check it out and ended up buying it, which pissed him off since he couldn't afford it at the time, lol. I already had a 2002 Z28 and shortly after, I bought my 2009 G8. I quickly realized that there was no way I could mod 3 cars, as even maintaining them was getting expensive, so I offered it to him and he was all over it. So far he's taken the exact same path to modding as I was going to.

Several people have tried to talk him into selling it for an LS1 car, but he loves this body style (like I'm sure most of us do) and is sticking with it :metal:

Just get the stall and run it in Street Stock at the Shootout.

I was going to say the same thing. That car would be in the 12's easy with a good converter and some tires.

I was hoping to see another car in Street Stock also but he said he couldn't make it on that other site.

Have him do what he can to make it to Bowling Green, KY on Sept 1st. He won't regret it.

Sounds like you have a healthy LT1, my made similar numbers with similar mods

I ran 12.98@103.03 with a 1.71 60ft on nitto 555r 245/50/16's. Back then I had a 52mm tb, granatelli maf ends, 1.6rr's, lt4 knock module, 3500 stall, pacesetter lt's, true duals, umi lca's, umi panhard rod, dd subframe connectors, edelbrock torque arm, 3.73's, 155000 miles, and a junk mail order tune.

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep the thread updated as progress is made.

I'll let him know about the LTX races coming up, but it's a bit of a ride from here and he'd have to get time off of work, etc, so I doubt it will happen this year.

muddyjimmy, your 85 looks great!

I remember when a low 13 second car was considered pretty quick.

Spending alot of time on the internet makes it seems like you need a rocket ship to have fun, but there is plenty of fun to be had with a slower car, as long as you are just out to have fun, and not talk shit. I'm actually hoping to pick up a stock 87-90 350 TPI fbody in the next couple years and I bet I'll have planty of fun, despite it being a high 14-low 15 second car.

He got the car to the track last night in some great air. He pulled the rear seats out and has had the spare tire and jack out for a while, but otherwise full weight.

He made a couple passes, with the best being 13.03 @ 106.4 mph.

He then swapped on a set of skinnies from my Camaro, and ran 12.96, 12.96, and 12.97, with his best mph being 106.7.
