Long story short, I have wanted to buy a Harley Softail for quite some time now. The thing is, the wife now says go for it......wait for it, wait for it......but we can't afford that AND the Z28.
Problem is the Z isn't running, the engine is completely tore down, and I would have to part it out. (Really not a problem if I decide to go that way.)
My thing is, I have plenty of people around me to persuade me to get the bike, Bey very few to keep the Z. I guess I could always buy a LT1 later....both can only be drivenduring summer...and the bike would get much better mileage.
I just don't know which way to go.

Well, I have owned two crotch rockets since 1996. I thought it was great having both, but honestly as each year passed, friends sold theirs, or died, or lost limbs (all moto related) and finally I was only taking it out once a year. I was inspecting it with under 100 miles from the previous year.

Yes, Im negative, and biased, and I admit, I lost my nerve to ride (for info on why, read previous paragraph). Anyways, the ball sweat, the fear of what everyone else on the road would be doing. I know you are gonna say, riding a harley is dif than riding a crotch rocket. Keep in mind Im a cop, Im 34 going on 35 and no longer a kid... I rode it respectfully (when I did ride it), and still gained the feelings that I have listed above.

A bike is fun, however you quickly learn that the "better gas mileage" arguemnt does not last long... you cant dress up on a bike, because your all f'd up when you get where your going. You have a wet snail trail down the crack of your ass, if its remotely warm out, and it gets even more uncomfortable as time goes on trying to travel places with a passenger and taking any material items with you.....

Its all you man, and I dont expect anyone to make any decisions based on how I feel... I just wanted to throw at you what my experience of riding has been since 1996 when I got my moto license.......


FINAL THOUGHT. I would never get rid of a fun car for a moto. Addition...yes, replace...no. However you say your car is in pieces.... I say spend the money on finishing the car rather than purchasing or financing a bike. I sold my bike and added a vette to my collection..... it seats two nicely and I can haul stuff with us..... although I still get swamp ass because the AC dont work.


Good luck with whatever you chose, and sorry so long..... Ive just been to enough hospital rooms.... funerals... and accident scenes to have a strong negative opinion about motos....:cry:

I'd say keep the car and finish it up, you've already got a significant amount of time, and from your sig, money invested. Unless you are ready to be done with the car for a bike.

Either way, go with what makes sense for you. Like I said, I'd finish up the car and then look for a bike, but if you really want the bike that badly that you'd be willing to part out your project, then go for it.

Or, and here's option C, prove your wife wrong and figure out a way to make it work :shiner:

And I'm definitely with popo on the moto's. My step aunt and uncle were almost killed on a gold wing from a 35mph spill. All their riding leathers and protective equipment saved them, barely. I have another friend who hit a furry something doing about a buck 20 around a curve, and he broke or dislocated the bones in both shoulders, collapsed a lung, and lacerated his liver so badly that a clot formed that could have killed him if the wind so much as breathed on him. Plus, like popo said too, it's still a car. It may be a ridiculously fast car, but it's still a car that can be used to move people and stuff.

The last bike I had, I was talked into buying it by friends. Everyone had a bike, so I bought one. Next thing I know, no one had time to ride em, or crashed em, or died! I was one of the only ones who had a bike by the time it was all said and done. A bike is an impulse buy, its fun for a while, but it sucks when its cold and all you can do is look at it, or wonder if its gonna rain every time you ride it.

Not trying to discourage you, just be carefull if that the route you take!!!
I'd stick with the car, atleast you can ride it in the rain without having to change clothes afterwards.
