Since I am always trying different techniques and looking for feed back I am going to being to periodically drop pictures here for comments. Feel free to ask me questions as well and I will try to share any knowledge I have. All my pictures will more than likley be taken with a Canon 60D and a YN-560 flash

Tonights haul,

Made a new picture from scratch to get a different feel of the first one. Which version do you like better 1 or 2?

1.

I like the first one. It draws more attention to the car while the other one the blurred out garage ceiling sorta draws you to a not so attractive back drop. Thats purely my opinion of course, and sometimes an ugly background can add an interesting contrast to a photo.

chris, I like a lot of your ideas, and how they work out. I think a shot of an LTX in the street at night under the light would make for a very sick picture!

I take it you're using your flash as a slave unit or what? Just seems like that from the lighting or is it exposure masking in PS? I just picked up a Speedlite 430ex II... how does your flash work? Battery life? I'm gonna return it if I can find one that will work as well. But so far I'm loving it as far as TTL shots go. Just did a wedding with it today but I'm an idiot and didn't charge the NiMH's thinking they came already fully charged so it died halfway through the day and I was left with shitty built in flash.

PS, I'm in Cape Girardeau we should get a photo shoot together, I know a lot of guys down here who do photography and churn out some good stuff as well.

Chris
05-22-2011, 11:31 AM
I use a single Yn-560 with triggers and paint the image together in cs5 and then I have a diffsuer that I covered in red tint to be able to mimick the brake lamps. Need a very very good tripod that wont move to make sure that the image will come together. When I first started i just had a cheapo walmart one and none of my images would align. Aside from my camera my tripod was the next biggest purchase.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/226047_10150188705580209_833920208_6797160_2769606 _n.jpg

I can usually get a good night worth of shooting out of my flash. Once I went a week without charging the batterys and then they finally died. That last picture I posted of Raven wasnt using a flash it was a little homemade soft box that I made out of a work lamp and some white cloth

Add me on Facebook, I know Fowler from down there is on there and when I still had my car we were going to meet up. I know I wont be able to make it down there for awhile though as I am busy the next few weekends. http://www.facebook.com/cgroh89

Amazing shots. Wish I had that kind of skill with a camera and PS. By the way, is that neon running around Carbondale? I'm pretty sure I saw it when I was down there this past year.

Chris
05-22-2011, 02:13 PM
Yes, there are two of them running around in this color. The one that I took pictures of graduated, the other one I believe is just a catback car or something. His name is Jeff, car puts down lotsalotsa a power and has a big big big turbo on it

So you can use the YN-560 as a slave and just a wireless trigger on the hotshoe? Thing that I don't like about this 430EX II is that it functions only as a slave and you have to have the 580EX II as the master apparently, I don't want to drop like $1000 on flashes, although from what I've seen they almost work as well as studio lights in controlled settings with some additions like light stands, umbrellas, soft boxes, etc.

Chris
05-23-2011, 10:39 PM
Yea, I just have a trigger on the hotshoe of the flash and the trigger on my hotshoe of the camera.

Nice, well that flash looks pretty inexpensive. How is the TTL performance? Or do you just use it for strobe work?

Ive only used it as a strobe for cars so far
