View Full Version : 4l60 hitting limiter

I know the first thought is the tranny needs rebuilt but its freshly rebuilt in November. It never hit the limiter before my Pcmforless tune. With the the tranny having a shift kit and them raisng the line pressure was making it hang on the limiter. I got the line pressure turned down to stock and the shift points changed a little earlier but its still tapping the limiter but only 1/4 as hard as it was. They said if the fluid is to high can cause this. What are your ideas?

It's in the tune. Have PCM4Less redo it or send it to someone else. Seems like I have been hearing of more problems than usual from them lately.

If you have a 4l60 a tune won't help the shift points

His car is a 94

That's right. If it is a 4l60/700r4 than a tune wont help at all. If it a 4l60e than I will stand by my above statement. What year is your car?

Its a 94 and a 4l60E sorry i wasnt clear. The shift points are adjustable but there is somthin goofy going on. I might have to learn how to adjust stuff like that myself. The motor part of the tune is dead on but the tranny has me scratching my head. Ive sent it back twice. Would data logging help see the issue? Line pressure guage?

Its probably that 4k stall. You are going to have to do some logging and working around it

I had a problem with my 2-3 shift after getting a tune and they just had to make a few adjustments.

Ok ive got a friends cable and got CATS to upload the tune and tunerpro to adjust the tune. In tuner pro i see there is four places to adjust the shift points in the tables and one in the scalers. Ive tried lowering the four in the tables. Anyone with a stall have a bin i could look at to see the times between shifts?

Its not the shift points causing your issue

Care to explain what the issue is? I would be interested in knowing for my own tune later.

Need more info. Are you hitting the limiter in every gear? Only certain shifts? Or does it do it any time you nail it?
I've got one now that is a similar build and will bounce off the limiter from a 60mph roll. Shift points are around 40 and 80 mph so... something is slipping.

The 1<2 shift is fine the 2<3 shift is hitting the limiter. And its every time at wot. Normal driving is shifting normal.

Nope, not slipping.

LMK how the new tune works for you. It was exactly what I suspected. I can't believe you paid them for a tune and they sent it out like that.

and BTW your line pressure is NOT back to stock... In fact its as high as you would ever want to take it, electronically...

Had one of my friends around here get his 98 camaro (although an ls) tuned by pcm4less, they boosted his line pressure so much he blew his torque converter in a week just driving around town

Well I'm guessing he was refering to the obdi stall wall issue. Or whatever you want to call it.
In CATS it is under constants and called "Vss Diagnostic Enable Min RPM" - Default is 3000 rpm. If you have a higher stall then set this number higher than your stall speed.
I haven't seen this issue a lot, but to be honest I have tuned far more stick than auto lt1s.

Thanks for lookin at at it Greg Rob. I loaded it in and it seems to be doing the same BUT i noticed that my tps voltage is low .58ish on idle. I know alot of the tune is based off that. Im gonna try to get that right and see what happens. I seen that the max line pressure was 110 i think after i asked them to lower it to stock and stock is around 90. Yes im not to happy with them. I had to pay $75 and shipping to send it there and back AFTER i paid them the first time. And shipping back the third time. Brian will atleast listen to you. Kieth is not friendly at all and just says somethin must be wrong on ur end. Never going to use them again.

Fixed it!! It was in the tune. Lowered the hot and cold mph and rpm shift points. Not sure what one exactly did it but its shifting perfect now. Sad that my very limited tuning skills is the one who had to figure it out not PCMFORLESS but i guess it could be the settings or hard parts in the tranny that were changed in the tranny during the rebuild.

That was the fine tuning I was talking about, that's the next step I would have taken were I tuning your car.
What I did in the tune was adjust the VSS diagnostic error RPM. PCMFORLESS left it stock even though you have a large stall. Without that fixed in the tune it was NEVER going to shift right at WOT.
Glad to hear its working well for you now.

I'm having the same exact issue with my 94 4l60e. Did you tune with C.A.T.S to correct your problem? If so where did you find the "cold" shift points. I only see normal, performance, kickdown and cruise up/down shift points. I have lowered them dramatically with better results but always tags the limiter 2-3. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

It should be there, just look around a little til you find it.

I used tuner pro. It sould be right next to eachother. I just would lower them go test it and keep lowering it untill it shifts right.
