Everyone-
I'm at the very last homestretch of finishing my build, and I have my original drivetran out of my '97 hanging out. It's a 79k mile drivetrain and very healthy. So I was thinking about my next project.....
Find a really high-mileage or lower mileage with a blown motor S10 Xtreme to drop my drivetrain into. A local speedshop has some pretty nice, super clean conversion kits that are fairly inexpensive.
I'd plan on keeping it a 6 speed, considering I have my harness, pcm, and T56 from my original setup.
So, from what I can remember, they didn't make the Xtreme in a 5-speed. So I'd probably have to get a set of S10 5-speed pedals, set up the firewall for the clutch master, and cut the hole in the floor for the shifter. And finish off the steering column with plastics from a 5-speed to get rid of the ugly hole from an automatic shifter being removed.
As far as the motor is concerned, the stock bottom end is healthy, so I'd probably send my heads and intake manifold out for porting and re-building, and put a healthy cam in it as well and a bigger TB. It should be a pretty sweet 400+ rwhp daily driver.
Any thoughts? I'm looking for general thoughts, problems, issues, benefits, or criticism of my plans. I'm about to get into the research stage of this, so I'll be doing a lot of thinking, reading, etc. about this. I plan on this being so super clean...people that don't know any better will think it came that way out of the factory.
