Your thoughts regarding a POTM issue.....UPDATE!!!

I was asked a question today regarding repeating POTM winners. I've been of the opinion that if someones car pics are good enough to win multiple times in one year, then more power to them. That would also mean that they would have multiple entries in the Picture of the Year contest which, again, i'm of the belief that if their pics are good enough to win for more than one month then they deserve to have more than one entry. I also think that if we had more entrants, then maybe I could see limiting victories to one a year but since we havent quite reached the size that would warrant limiting victories to one a year, it would become an issue. What do you guys think? I don't want the contest to be unfair so I wanted to ask you guys and gals for your thoughts and opinions. Do you think a POTM victor should be able to submit an entry as many times as they want or should we limit victors to one victory a year?

It is an issue because i say the winner maybe should not participate for 2 months but i dont know about the whole year. The thing is that not many people participate as it is, so it will eventually it will just get smaller and smaller.

I think one a year is fair. Kinda of like how calenders are done on other sites with car/picture of the month winners.

normally i would care, but since i lack the photoshop skills to alter pictures i really just don't matter anymore. not like there's any money in it

I lack photoshop skills also and have a shitty camera, I just post to up the amount of cars. I think winning once a yr is fair.

You do realize the problem once a year is going to create?

For one it will slim down the number or participants

Two, it will cause us to have to choose from shitty quality pictures that simply don't deserve to get the award

Nobody says you need to use photoshop but obviously a quality megapixel camera will help.

I don't think anybody wants to have cell phone pics up or have to even choose from those types of pics.

If you can win more than once youll have the same people all the time which might cause the exact opposite and new people wont even try. I can see it going both ways.

That picture is an untouched picture using a regular ole point-and-shoot camera. It's not all that hard, it just takes people actually putting forth an effort for great pictures.

I say limit it to once a year. That is what we do on another forum I am an admin of, and it works really well.

If you are to look back at all the submission threads on this forum for POTM, you will note many threads being 4-5 pages long. NUMEROUS entries every month. One year will take out 12 entries, and that is it. If you make the year a calendar year (Jan-Dec), then you are only out 11 participants per year. (Dec. winner would be eligible for January per rules of calendar year).

Regarding the quality of photo's resulting from the once a year: Say we get down to Nov., and all the pictures to YOU are crap quality, then that is your choice and opinion. Others may not agree or see eye-to-eye with you. Photography is an art, thus no one is going to have the same shared opinion as yourself regarding certain photo's. That is just the way it is. What you see as a "crappy picture", may be a really nice picture to someone else. Also, since they have narrowed it down to 5 contestants each month, then that means the mods/admins can sort through the "crappy pictures" and choose the best ones out of them. I can almost guarantee that there wouldn't be any "crappy pictures" to vote on.

Besides, I am pretty sure we can all think of more than just 12 people that submit monthly with some pretty badass pictures.

No need to take it so seriously.indeed! it's not like there is any money in it. the Global FJ Cruiser forum i'm on, which is a forum equivalent to one like ls1tech. it also has a monthly photo contest with a 100$ reward to the winner. but much like ls1tech their fan base is spread world wide... some of them FJ pix are crazy awesome! from raw to photoshop altered them people are hunting for the win...

I think it all depends on what the pictures are being used for. If you have plans for a calendar... 1 a year.. If you dont, I think it should be game on.

I think that multiple wins within the same year by one person doesn't bring a fair opportunity for others to participate. And if that happens, I believe even less will want to participate and if anything I would like to see LTX's POTM grow and attract new members and people to enter.

I'm gonna say once every six months. If the same person keeps wining twice a year, then all of us other members need to step it up and stop them from winning by entering pictures.

Alright, after giving it some thought, I think 6 months is a decent enough amount of time for a POTM winner to have to wait before winning another contest. Once a year is just too extreme and we just don't have the volume to justify that one and once every three months is pretty damn close to being once a month so 2 victories max a year. I think if your shots are badass enough where you can win twice in a year, then thats a sign that folks may need to step up their game! :hammer:
