View Full Version : Are 93z28's ecms junk by nature? lt1 noob

As the title states I do believe mine is junk. Vehicle has been in a front impact accident with airbag deployment. The original ecm has been replaced with another acdelco with the year 1995 on it. I have owned the car for almost a year with no problems. It is only batch firing the drivers side and not the passenger side injectors. After determining I have enough fuel psi, spark, and an hour delooming and wiggle testing, I went to the gm service manual. Nothing new there. Went inside for an hour or two totally bummed came out retested everything just to be sure I did not miss anything. Being a fleet mechanic by trade it hurts my heart when something doesn't cooperate so I did the only logical thing left- I pimp smacked the crap out of the ecm and it was magical. Car runs on all 8 cylinders again. Ok, find a new one :frustrated:. Guess what none to be found around here and there is about ten local junkyards in a total gm car driving town. New is so darn expensive. Any suggestions on where to find one? Thanks in advance.

You cannot run 94+ pcm in a 93 car without switching the harness also or having it specially tuned.
93s are batch fired, 94+ are not

94 has a maf. I had 2 injectors out. Bought 2 new ECM's. Problem was not ECM but the injectors. I got one off ebay (firehawkjeff) and one off some place i will have to go find the reciept for. I now have 3 working ones. One used OEM and 2 re-mans. They are hella expensive. The core is worth some $$ if you can find a re-man. Most places will not have them and will want yours for them to re-man. I am not ready to sell any of mine, sorry. I will tell you to try swappig injectors around, or ateast get a noid light and see if the pulse is there. Good Luck and I will post the place i found a re-man at as soon I go back to my shop.

Thanks jay resistance tested and verified all 8 injectors are within tolerance and for a 17 year old car thought that was decent. They r all within .1 ohm of each other. Appreciate your thoughts on the ecms too. You r sooooooo right for new no prom $244 is the cheapest i have found around here. Any suggestions on where to find one hiding or just lump out the cash on a new one?

OP, give me a couple of days, but a local junkyard to me has a 93 Z28 sitting there, and last time I was there the ECM was in place. I can go check for you if you want and pull it if necessary. It won't be until later this week though due to time constraints.

Hey man, I ran out to that junkyard yesterday, no ECM in the car. It had been picked over pretty good actually, was down to a block with a timing cover still on it even.
Whoever took the computer though just wanted it, they CUT the harness, then tossed the connectors back in after they were removed from the computer itself.
