There's a big difference.

Steel - Much heavier. Pro - Much heavier-duty. Can take ANY amount of power. Con - Less throttle response, especially for lower power builds (<450 RWHP) due to much more rotational mass to get turning.

Aluminum - MUCH lighter. Pro - Better, faster throttle response (less rotational mass to turn, therefore able to start spinning it faster than steel) Con - not sure how the aluminum flywheel is designed, but it is probably aluminum with removable/replaceable friction material. They're a bit more intensive to refurbish than a steel wheel. They can't take quite the abuse that a steel wheel can take either.

So I guess there's a question to ask of you: What power are you making? What's your setup? Do you have plans for more power in the future? If so, what's the planned setup? How soon do you plan on adding on extra power?

I went with aluminum, my thinking was with the added weight of the clutch assy. I would off set it with the lighter fly wheel. One of my good friends has the steel and destroyed the input shaft. He also has swi tched to the aluminum

General rule of thumb: Steel if you're going to drag race (inertia), aluminum if you're going to Auto-x, road race, ect (quicker revs). I have a steel flywheel.

Steel here for the turbo setup.

If you have a severely lightened fbody (think < 3100lbs) then aluminum would be okay even for drag racing but for heavier cars and big power cars, you want the rotating mass of the steel one.
