Ok so I have a 93 camaro and I am looking at the memcal and noticed the is no G1 adapter to allow for a tune. However, I paid to have the car tuned and I know you have to re-burn a new chip if I am right, but is there another way to do it without using the G1 adapter. If I can get some pictures I will post them and see if you guys think this memcal has been tuned or not

Sorry they aren't very good pictures, but could someone have tuned this computer or did they say they did and didn't actually do anything?

It's possible that's an aftermarket memcal........don't remember seeing anything hand written on teh stockers I"ve seen (been working with 93's since about 2000).

Moates should have an adapter and a programmer for the chip as well as chips, and they might have tuning software too. If they don't, Tunercats is a great option.

Thanks for the fast reply. Yeah I ordered everything yesterday to try to start tuning my own car figuring in the long run it would be cheaper. However, when I ordered everything I didn't get the adapter since I figured it would be in the car since it has been tuned. So there is no way to tune that unit by its self though. It would have to ordered that way? I'm also trying tuning to try and get my knock sensor desensitzed if it really is false knock. Also after studying the chip a little I noticed that on the gel coated circuit board looked like it had a burn spot on it, but can't tell for sure. You really can't see it in the picture, but have you ever heard of those shorting out, I'm wondering if that is the reason my fan will not come on.

If the chip shorted out there'd be a lot more going on. Could be a QDM failure in teh computer, one of the three QDM's will kill the fans, and odds are if it's an aftermarket tune then the QDM trouble codes have been turned off. That's probably a worst case scenario though.

Do you have datalogging software? If not, get some. Instrumental to the tuning process.

Hmmm thats interesting, I have had a code 26 since I got the car back, and since this code is on the fans have been on constant. The fans will come on with the A/C or if the ses light is on. And yes I have also ordered DataMaster along with my tuning stuff so I can try to trouble shoot some of these problems and help with tuning. Thats good to know that the chip is good they are kinda of pricey.

Here's your 26 Code:

Looks like the fans aren't that one. Fans SHOULD come on with the A/C or whenever the SES light is on.

Thanks for all the help, it has been very helpful. Looks like the tune he did was not very good or the code 26 should not be on. I guess I will need to wait until my tuning and data logging software come in along with my cables to try and see why the fans won't come on and try to turn off the egr, evap and air. I will probably be opening some more threads with tuning help since this is my first time. Yeah I did notice the writing on the chip, and figured it had been messed with, just didn't know you could get an aftermarket one with a tune on as that whole memcal piece. I assumed you could only tune the chip. Its possible I may be opening a can of worms by trying this tuning thing on my own.

My memcal looks exactly the same i actually had to damn near rip the cover off the top and it was painted gold. it also had a smiley face sticker and im assuming the previous owners name. solomons tuning it right now and said that everything was stock on the tune except the PE tables and WOT spark advance. it will be interesting to see whats up with the tune currently on yours.

I ran a Moates Ostrich. http://www.moates.net/ostrich-20-the-new-breed-p-169.html?cPath=64 It plugs into the adapter(in place of the chip) and allows you to store the tune in the Ostrich. You can edit it with Tunerpro R/T. THe problem is the ostrich is not supposed to be used full time. I had an issue with the ribbon cable. I am going to go back to using the Ostrich soon. I am making a weatherproof housing for it so I can run it under the hood near the ECM, elminiating the long ribbon cable issue.

Ok thanks guys for all the replies. However I wasn't sure if I needed to open a new thread or just try to continue this one. I finally got my datamaster logging program and made my first run for about 30 min(guessing). Well a lot of it makes since to me. Such as I am only getting about 1 degree of spark retard out of my car under WOT, which is good. But there are a few things I'm wondering about, such as the Long/Short term fuel trim values, Injector base pulse width,Computer injector duty cycle, what should these values and many others read around at idle, WOT, Half throttle etc, is there somewhere I can get this info to look over my results and start figuring out where to improve, and where there may be problems. Also I think my IAT has been tuned by the previous guy to be colder, it goes crazy at idle, goes anywhere from 35 to almost a 100 degree F. Any values that you may know of or a place I could read up on what these values should be will be extremely helpful. After the rest of my chip burner stuff gets here maybe I can start trying make my own tune, along with turn of that dang code 26. Also, lastly what should my Spark advance be doing under WOT it hover around 26 to 35. Under light to medium throttle it will drop to almost 12 degrees. Sorry for all the questions, really excited to be able to research this and understand all of this madness, hopefully in the long run I can start to help other people who decide to go this route.

Also, Does anyone have a stock 1993 camaro Manual trans tune. I don't think there is anyway to load the existing tune i have on my car onto my laptop since there is not a removable chip, is this correct? would anyone have ideas on what I need to do to tune out the EGR AIR EVAP etc. since i have deleted both the egr and air. I would like to turn that code 26 or QDM #3 off. On the previous post would it be easier to post my datalog so someone could look over it to see what look good and what looks bad.
