i see lots of people say 4.10 are for the 6-speeds and 3.73 for the auto tranny.

so why not put 4.10 in the auto will they not fit or something?

3k plus rpm on the interstate in OD.

I can imagine that would create quite the drone.

having done it... its not that bad. lol and shane was close. i was at 2700 rpm at 68mph. I had a loud mouth 1 as well. again... i like to hear my gas burn, so it wasnt crazy bad. also i averaged 24 mph on the highway. in town... much worse! lol

i say do it! lol you'll love the way your car pulls!

i would say if your car sees alot of track time do it, but if its a DD i would stick to 3.73s. but its your car so do what you wish.

The 1st gear in a 4L60E is an AWESOME gear with 3.73's and a 26"ish tire. With a set of 4.10's and a small tire 26" or less, 1st would be wasted. It would be too short. Maybe if you ran a 28" tire you could run 4.10's effectively, but not many guys do that.

okay my next question would be what rpm am i looking at if i go with 3.73s and 70-75ish with stock tire size?

Nothing is wrong with it. If you like a lot of gear, pick the 4.10s. If you mainly drive the highway, get 3.73. Want somewhere in the middle, grab some 3.90s (When I come up with the money for a new rear, its gettin 3.90s)...

Dont remember, but think it was just over 2000 rpms.... If you research, there is a way to calculate it. Tire diameter, gear ratio, trans gear ratio are needed..

Making a decision on gears is really up to you, everyone told me that I would hate having a locker with 4.30 gears in my car. I absolutely love having the locker nothing like pulling up to a cruise-in and back into a parking spot and hearing click-click-click lol and know that when you lay into it, it is going to LOCK both rear wheels they also said I wouldn't like the 4.30 gears but here again they make the car feel good on motor. After all that it all comes down to what you want.

with 3.42 and @ 80mph in 6th gear i run 2000 RPM's :secret:, buddy of mine has a problem with going into OD at the dragstrip with his 4:10's and jacked up his tranny lol but really its up to the person getting them!

I love my 3.73s, but wish I had more gear at times. Thanks to the new gears I was then capable of chirping second gear which is cool for an auto. Now I have DRs and will probably be looking for a new rear soon enough. :shame:

i have 3.73's and i run at 2600 rpm at 70 with stock tire size. first gear in town is excellent and tire chirping from first to second when on the pedal is a blast.:D

Get a set of 3.73 or 3.90s. I had some 3.90 w/ A4 and it was awesome around town.

I'm running 4.10's for awhile now but, I wish I would have went 4.30's. I love the way my car leaves with the steep gears.

i haven't been to the track in ages, and i'm really happy i went with the 3.42's because of it. i still bark the tires in 2nd on motor, it has plenty enough pep around town, and my fuel economy isn't as horrible as i imagine it would be with something like 4.10's. i doubt i'll ever go above a 3.55 gear if i change it up again, especially since i've been considering getting into standing mile racing

im going with 3.52s cause they are a little bit lower then 3.42s but have the fuel sipping aspect still:laugh:
