I'll make this as simple as possible; I had to replace the oil pan in my Trans Am. I jacked up the motor and trans as far as it would go to clear the oil pan from the cross member. After I put it all back together and drove it I noticed noises. When engaging the clutch, there is a rattling sound with a small vibration. Once it's in gear it's perfect as always, no rattling and no vibration. What could this possibly be?

It's obviously still working since it shifts great etc, should I try and get it fixed? Where exactly is the pilot bearing? (forgive my ignorance).

it only makes the noise when your foot is on the pedal and fully depressed?

answer this guys question first

the pilot bearing is inside the back of the crankshaft, it supports the front of the transmission input shaft

Idk how the pilot bearing would rattle... rattling makes me lean more towards throwout bearing

Throwout bearing sounds like the case hear, Drove me crazy, Replaced it twice until I came to the conclusion it was just normal after talking to others

oh god, i hate those things. discovered centerforce uses stock TOs in their df kits. the lip that the fork rides on sliced right off one day while driving. clutch got rock hard. replaced the master/slave before discovering this. sucked.

because if the input shaft or the bushing/bearing were damaged (scratched, gouged) that is exactly what it would do, and because he recently had the motor jacked up and exerted force on the bellhousing it is not completely unlikely to be the case

not to mention the fact that a squeak from a pilot bearing/bushing can easily be misinterpreted as a rattle by someone not as mechanically inclined as yourself, in order to properly help diagnose the problem we would need more information, like the question i asked him for starters

if you want to just randomly pick things without any information the clutch has just as much a chance as causing that noise as a throwout bearing if it is worn down or a spring has come loose

Which is what I meant, usually a pilot bearing would squeal or squeak not rattle.
