Ok guys and gals. Some of you may or may not know but I have a 54 that I'm doing a resto job on. I took off all of the chrome and bumpers and sand blasted everything I could. Well I took about a 2 year break from that car since money was an issue and I was working on the Camaro as well. (about 2k in recent mods!) Well I have a budget for the 54 and found 2 guys who are going to help me with the rest of the resto. 1 guy I knew for some time but never worked with him. The other guy I met though another friend and we hit it off great. They are both bowtie guys so I knew we get along great. Well they are now trying to start a buiness in auto customizing call SKRAP RATS CUSTOMS. My 54 is going to be their first complete tear down and rebuild. I buy the parts and they do all of the work, for a price of course but once I tell you what all they are doing and how much (or how little) they are going to charge me your jaw might drop. Here are some pics.....

Here is the frame. It was cover in old road tar and dirt. It really came out nice. I went with under coating over painting cause this car IS going to be driven alot.

Here's a pic of the hood. They are going remove each part and paint each part seperately.

Here's a pic of all the parts I had in storage. Whew! Better get the wool pads and polishing compound and get to work.

This is what we agreed on and all they are going to do.
Remove each piece and paint them seperatly. (Inside and out. hood is almost done)
Clean up and under coat the frame. (already done.)
Sand and repair all dents.
Spray protective coating in passenger compartment. (some call it primer! haha!)
spray POR 15 in all areas prone to rust.
Drop in engine and tranny and all parts needed for the car to run. (gas tank, rad, new booster and master cylinder)
Rewire entire car.
Install AC sytem. (last on the list and to be done once the car is running)

Total price for all work!!

$2800

I know!! That is cheap. I'll update as the car comes together. Sorry if I don't reply right away. Been working alot.

wow that is cheap. I hope it works out.

FWIW in all the restorations i have done on cars that came from "damp" areas of the country, the Undercoating stuff made the rust worse. It seems to trap moisture between it and the panel. For the 62 Valiant I did for my dad I had to strip what was left of the factory undercoating and de-rust the metal. I then POR15 the whole area and then used a brush on / roll on truck bed coating to make it look like the original factory undercoating MOPAR used in the 60's. I have used this technique on several other cars.

I am stariting on my 1956 chevy soon. I just got the Corvair out of the shop. I will have to start a thread and we can compare notes!! LOL

Good Luck with project!
